Given his latest acclaimed runs on books like Secret Warriors, S.H.I.E.L.D. and the recently launched Future Foundation at Marvel, Jonathan Hickman isn't exactly a hard sell to mainstream comic fans. Still, there's something extra appealing about the writer's newly announced creator-owned project at Image, The Red Wing. Sure, it's partly due to Hickman's reputation as a robust storyteller, but also because TRW's teaser image for the miniseries by artist Nick Pitarra bears at least a passing resemblance to the helmets worn by Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. That said, I'm not sure if I can wait until July to buy issue #1.From Image's official press release:

"Nick is going to really surprise some people," Hickman said. "When the art for this starts hitting the web, and then when the finished product shows up in stores, many of them are going to wonder where this guy has been hiding. Nick's a very hungry, special, special talent. I consider myself fortunate to be working with him."

Pitarra posted a few tentative preview pages at his official blog, which seem to reinforce my yearning for a little Gatchaman flavor as they're chock full of dudes and ladies in bird-style helmets piloting cool space ships.

Check out a few of Pitarra's teaser pages below, along with Image's official promo image.
