In a move sure to please his diehard fans, Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Dollhouse," and "Firefly," announced at today's Visionaries panel at San Diego Comic-con International that is he definitely directing the "Avengers" for Marvel. According to Lauren Davis of io9, he went ahead and announced it "because Marvel can't afford the press release."

"Avengers" is tentatively scheduled for 2012, following "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Thor" in 2011.
