Keith Champagne, a comics writer and artist known for his work on Aztek, Green Lantern Corps, and JSA, recently suffered a broken leg while camping with friends and family and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. In effort to relieve the Champagne family's troubles, his collaborator Tom Nguyen has started a GoFundMe page to help them with medical costs and Keith's recovery period.

Over the July 4th weekend, Champagne was helping his son descend a summit in the White Mountains when he lost his footing and fractured his leg in two places. It took the rescue crew nine hours to get Champagne to safety.

Since the accident, Champagne has been unable to walk or work. After several delays, surgery was completed on Friday, July 15th. Now begins an intense ten week rehabilitation period, and it may take up to a year for Champagne to make a full recovery.

In order to help the Champagne family through this hard time, a GoFundMe has been created by friend and collaborator Tom Nguyen. Donations of $25 will receive a signed trade paperback collecting some of Keith Champagne's work, and donations of $50 will receive an exclusive print of Champagne and Nguyen's new creator-owned project, Switch.

Accidents such as this can be --- and all too frequently are --- completely life-changing for freelancers in the comic book industry. If you want to make a donation or find out more information, head to the GoFundMe page.
