It's been 18 years (that's right, 18 years) since Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness first teamed up on Deadpool back in 1997. A lot (and I mean a lot) of Deadpool comics have been published since then, but for many fans who read that original run, Kelly and McGuinness are still the definitive Deadpool team.

Those fans can now officially rejoice: Marvel announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday that Kelly and McGuinness are teaming up again to pair Deadpool with another Marvel favorite, Spider-Man, in this fall's Spider-Man/Deadpool.

Here's the Marvel solicit for the first issue:

The Merc-y Neighborhood Deadpool? The Spider with a Mouth? Close enough. THE TWO MOST POPULAR CHARACTERS IN THE WORLD TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME! (That’s a lie.) Deadpool loves Spider-Man. Spider-Man hates Deadpool. If my math is correct, that makes them the perfect team, but what brings these two together? You’re going to have to read this book to find out, but Joe Kelly (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, DEADPOOL) and Ed McGuinness (DEADPOOL, AMAZING X-MEN, HULK, a certain team-up book at the Distinguished Competition) are together again and will blow your mind with the last page of the first issue!

Readers of Kelly's run will almost certainly remember issue #11 (which, I should note, had art by Pete Woods, not McGuinness), in which Deadpool gets zapped back into the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #47 to encounter a John Romita Sr.-style Peter Parker and Kraven the Hunter. More recently (and set in the present), Kelly teamed up Spider-Man and Deadpool in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, in issue #611 in 2010.

What's in store this time? Your guess is as good as mine, but it'll take a lot to top Deadpool #11 from all those many years ago. (Were we ever so young?)
