Poor Scooby-Doo and Shaggy; those guys can never catch a break when it comes to getting a decent meal. Maybe if they actually got paid for some of the cases Mystery, Inc. helped solve, the refrigerator in their home wouldn't be filled with cobwebs. I mean, honestly, these guys have helped bring the Black Knight, the Indian Witch Doctor, Redbeard's Ghost and the Ghost of Bigfoot to justice, to name a few. You'd think that would at least earn them enough scratch to stock the house with Scooby Snacks or Lunchables or something. Also, why are these guys always so hungry?

Fortunately for the hungry heroes, a familiar friend drops some pizza and a mystery box off on Scooby's and Shaggy's doorstep. Unsure of what this glowing blue box means, the duo set to work uncovering the mystery therein. It's almost like these guys treat solving these kinds of quandaries like a job. Once completed, we see that this box was no ordinary box at all, but was actually a Lego Dimensions portal complete with minifigures of Scooby and Shaggy. Cue the theme music, boys.

As we can see from the gameplay footage, the entire Mystery, Inc. team will be a part of the core Lego Dimensions game. Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf will have to travel to the land of Scooby and his friends to solve the overarching mystery of the portals popping up all over the Lego Universe. Scooby and Shaggy, as well as the Mystery Machine and a big ol' sandwich will be part of a separate pack as playable characters, but even if you don't buy these add-ons, you'll still get to hang with them in-game; you just wont' be able to use them.

The trailer also offers a glimpse at additional characters and worlds like Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Chima and The Simpsons. Note that you can see Shaggy driving the team's trademark van through almost all of these worlds, but again, you'll have to have the expansion pack to do so. In fact, you'll actually have to have the expansion pack for most of those worlds to even visit them. Some will of course be in the main game, just like Scooby-Doo, but TT Games is keeping much of what's in store a secret for now. Fortunately for those of us waiting, there's only a little over a month to go until almost all of Lego Dimensions is available, and we all go broke buying all the buildable sets for the game.

Lego Dimensions will be available on a variety of platforms starting on Sept. 27.
