Sometimes, when you have a surprise hit on your hands, you get a little bit of freedom to go outside the box with your casting choices on the sequels. That seems to be the approach taken by the producers of Deadpool 2, anyways. A few weeks ago, we wrote about the rumors that Kyle Chander and Mackenzie Davis were atop the wishlist for Cable and Domino, respectively, in the next Deadpool movie. And now Davis has spoken openly about her lack of conversations regarding the role.

Rumors linking Davis to Domino were kicked off by Jeff Sneider, who reported hearing that “the name for Domino … is Mackenzie Davis” in an episode of Meet the Movie Press (via ComicBookMovie.com). While Sneider mentioned in a subsequent post on Twitter that the movie was “far from casting”, the rumor picked up momentum quickly enough that GQ actually asked Davis if she’d been approached for the role. According to the actress, nothing is brewing on that front yet.

No! It’s very interesting. People keep sending me printouts being like, “This is so cool!” And I’m like, “Right? I also think it’s cool! But it’s not true!” I mean. I’d love to keep the ruse going. It’s sort of cool that people think I’m doing Deadpool. But no! I don’t have any news to share. I wish I did!

Now, a conspiracy theorist might suggest that since the Deadpool team won one round of public negotiations  —  when they released the Deadpool VFX reel and got fans on their side  —  the best way to convince both 20th Century Fox and the actors themselves to join the new movie would be to leak the names and let audiences go crazy with fan art (Davis even admits to seeing a bunch of it in her GQ interview). But more realistically, the Deadpool team has a few people they’d like to approach and are now working with the studio to tweak the list. It’s a long process, so odds are these aren’t the last casting rumors you’ll hear for Cable and Domino.

Deadpool 2 is currently scheduled for a January 12, 2018 release date.
