While fans debate the finer points of who would actually win in a fight between Batman and Superman (spoiler: Martha), national treasure Michael Shannon absolutely cannot be bothered with these silly questions. Man of Steel’s former General Zod and current Zod-Corpse in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was asked which superhero he thinks would win in the titular battle, and his delightful answer is a weird moment of zen.

In an interview with Vulture, Shannon was asked if Batman or Superman would win in Zack Snyder’s epic showdown, and his reply basically boils down to a very elegant “IDGAF”:

I’m so utterly unconcerned with the outcome of that fight. So profoundly, utterly unconcerned. I can’t even come up with a fake answer. I guess I have to root for Superman because he killed me, so I would hope that he would continue his killing spree and become like a serial killer Superman. That’s a new take on Superman. We’d all be in a heap of trouble if Superman was a serial killer. He could just wipe us all out. But then he’d be lonely.

In response, the interviewer asks, “Isn’t he already lonely?” and Shannon delicately sets down the mic with, “Well, we’re all lonely.”

But yes, he’s right. A serial killer Superman would definitely be something we haven’t seen before (someone guilty of thoughtless, inadvertent mass-manslaughter, on the other hand…), and not out of Snyder’s dark realm of possibility for the DC movie universe.

Shannon stars in Jeff Nichols’ sci-fi drama Midnight Special, which is currently playing in theaters. Or if you prefer your Michael Shannon to be a little more lifeless and stiff, you can see him as the corpse of General Zod in Batman v Superman.
