If you're into the Power Rangers, there's a lot to be excited about happening this week. The big-screen reboot is set to hit theaters; the current Power Rangers Ninja Steel TV show has just revealed the brand-new Gold Ranger; and our own Ranger Station recaps have finally gotten to the point in the original series where they're adapting Gosei Sentai Dairanger --- which I assure you is definitely a big deal.

But one of the most interesting developments in Power Rangers has come in the pages of Boom's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic, in which Billy and Zack have journeyed to a nightmare dystopia where Tommy never overcame his evil origins, and conquered the world as Emperor Drakkon. He's not keeping the power to himself, though --- he's given the Rangers' power to a team of elite (and evil) warriors, designed by Jamal Campbell in collaboration with Saban Brands. They are... the Power Ranger Sentries.

I genuinely love how they feel like fan-made updates and redesigns --- which are always the source of some great takes and solid ideas --- that have made their way into the canon of the comic. One of the best things about them is their new takes on the weapons. Rather than a power bow, the pink Sentry appears to have a long-ranger Mass Effect-looking sniper rifle, and the Yellow Ranger's daggers have been mounted on a pair of sabertooth handguns. And the Red Ranger's sword? Well, now it's two swords.

The Sentries made their debut with the Black Sentries in the previous issue, but in MMPR #13, we're getting the Red, Pink, and Yellow versions. Check out a preview:

Following the debut of the Mastodon Sentries in issue #11, this issue features the Tyrannosaurus Sentries, Sabertooth Sentries, and Pterodactyl Sentries, troopers molded after the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and under the command of Lord Drakkon on an alternate timeline Earth. In the story, Tommy Oliver and Billy Cranston have been transported to that universe, in which Lord Drakkon—the Tommy Oliver of this timeline—and Rita Repulsa have conquered the planet. In eluding capture by the Sentries and trying to find their way back to their own world, the pair find allies with an underground resistance called The Coinless.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #13 is written by Kyle Higgins and illustrated by Hendry Prasetya. The Sentries were designed by MMPR cover artist Jamal Campbell and Saban Brands.
