Pokemon and More Evolve in the Designs of Mike Gaboury [Art]

Today’s award for creepiest/awesomest Pokémon art goes out to Mike Gaboury of Adventure Time video game treatment fame. We have seen creators take Nintendo’s otherwise cuddly critters and turn them into beastly, seemingly drug-induced nightmares before, but Gaboury tailors his creations for T-shirts — and they are rad.Gaboury states on his Tumblr account that he wanted to depict Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise as he saw them in his head as a child. Unsettling as that may sound, he is a talented artist with a chunky archive of things that you should check out.

In addition to some dark portrayals of Mario and Yoshi, Gaboury also has a few lighter works in his online gallery, including some adorable pixel-rific Ninja Turtles and the “Guernica” of Super Smash Bros. pieces.

If you like what you see, be sure to watch him demonstrate his process on YouTube. There, you can bear witness as Venusaur comes to life.
