Fight Breast Cancer -- Visit United for Pink

Cancer Vixen coverIt took a LONG time, but I'm glad to report Marisa Acocella Marchetto, the mastermind behind the awesome Cancer Vixen has finally launched her own Web site!

Marchetto's book has stuck with me, because it navigates that tricky and true ground of living life on paper -- competing in the male-dominated world of cartooning in New York, fighting/surviving breast cancer (complete with blue breasts, lymphedema, mediports and weight gain) and, most importantly, finding true love -- while never failing to entertain. And, it's probably why a film adaptation starring Kate Blanchett is in the works...

Hit the cartoons tab, and you'll discover a treasure trove of her earlier work, including the story from Glamour that started it all and 52 of her toons that have been published in the New Yorker.

If you enjoyed the ink-stained fingers/cartooning subplot in Cancer Vixen as much as I did, take a look at Matthew Diffie's awesome The Rejection Collection: Cartoons You Never Saw, and Never Will See, in The New Yorker, that includes cartoons from Marchetto and her peers. (An affectionately titled sequel, The Cream of the Crap, debuts next month.)
