Like every other newspaper in the country, "The Kansas City Star" is looking to bring down its overhead. One of the ways they're hoping to accomplish this is by doing something they should have done a long time ago: canceling comics, "Survivor" style.

As of Tuesday, June 24, ten strips had been put on the chopping block, including classic adventure series "Mark Trail," family comedy "For Better or for Worse," the quirky "Bizarro," and the depressingly un-funny "Cathy." Readers are asked to eliminate five strips via online voting at KansasCity.com or mail-in ballot by June 30.

While it may seem a shame to lose more strips to tough times, the comic section of "The Star" has been needing a complete overhaul for several years, and if the economy is going to hell it might as well drag "Marmaduke" along with it.
