Last week, Viz and Comixology had a massive three-day sale on their Shonen Jump titles, and now, they're following it up with a similar sale for Shojo Beat. There are 761 volumes chock full of romance on sale for about five bucks each, and while I'm not quite as familiar with that genre as I am with its action-heavy counterpart, there's one series in there that I can unreservedly recommend to just about everyone: Kazune Kawahara and Aruko's My Love Story!!

Based around two seemingly mismatched high school students who love each other with the kind of hilarious intensity that only two high schoolers can, it's one of the funniest and most engaging romance comics on the stands, and you can grab all five current volumes for five bucks each.

I wrote about the first volume of My Love Story back when it came out, but if you missed it, the short version is that Takeo Goda is a gigantic, super-strong judo star with a knack for crushing on girls that have no interest in him. Instead, they're far more interested in his extremely handsome (and perpetually bored-looking) best friend, Sunakawa, who always rejects them. One day, he ends up rescuing the super-cute Rinko Yamato from a pervert on a train, and instantly falls in love with her. The twist is that while Takeo assumes that she's in love with Sunakawa and tries his best to get them together, she's actually the first girl to love him back.

It's not long before the two characters wind up together, and from there it keeps building and building with even more hilarious "obstacles" for their love. My personal favorite is the extended story about how Yamato worries that Takeo will lose respect for her and no longer see her as pure and innocent if she confesses her intense desire to hold hands.

Spoiler warning: They do in fact hold hands.

Much like One Punch Man, it seems like the kind of joke that could easily get very repetitive, but it never does, thanks largely to the way that Aruko and Kawahara keep adding new twists to it, from cursed amusement park visits to a new girl who develops a crush after Takeo helps her run faster.

The end result is something that hits that magic sweet spot of hilarious and, well, sweet, and ends up being a great time.

If you want to take advantage of the sale price, though, you need to act fast: The Comixology sale --- which does not seem to apply to the Viz Manga site this time --- ends on Thursday at 11 PM Eastern. And hey, if you've got any recommendations on some Shojo Beat titles that I should check out, feel free to let me know!
