Cartoon Network original miniseries Over the Garden Wall was one of the best TV surprises of last year; a 10-part event that weaved a mesmerizing tale of two brothers, Wirt and Greg, who find themselves lost in a weird, forgotten world called Unknown, searching for a place, or a person, or something named Adelaide, in the company of an irritable talking bluebird named Beatrice and a frog named… well, he has a lot of names, actually.

Along the way, the group encounter talking animals, evil beasts, a lonely woodsman, and myriad mysterious and amusing strangers. Equal parts Hayao Miyazaki, The Wizard of Oz, early Disney cartoons and Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music, it's a bizarre, heartfelt and trippy tale about growing up and accepting responsibility. And also singing frogs.

This August, Boom Studios is bringing us back to the weird world of Unknown with a four-issue miniseries written by show creator Patrick McHale and illustrated by colorist and cartoonist Jim Campbell. Set between episodes three and four of the show, the miniseries promises more of the sort of old-timey curiosities that the show and last year's one-shot comic special delivered.

Check out our exclusive five-page preview below, including variant covers by Steve Wolfhard (Adventure Time storyboard artist), Jeffrey Brown (Sulk, Incredible Change-Bots, those adorable Star Wars kids books) and Michael DiMotta (Final Crisis Aftermath: Ink, Vertigo's Strange Sports Stories).

What’s to Love: Airing last November, Pat McHale’s Over the Garden Wall was Cartoon Network’s first-ever original, animated miniseries. We loved the eerily sweet story of two half-brothers trying to find their way home so much we published a companion one-shot that was quickly snapped up by folks who just wanted more of this world to experience. Now, we’re expanding the world of Over the Garden Wall with McHale and returning artist Jim Campbell with a full-length story.
What It Is: It's a new Over the Garden Wall story set between episodes 3 and 4 of the animated series! Wirt and Greg are trying to hitch a ride out of schooltown but end up having to walk. Soon, they come upon two girls playing, and wind up having to keep them entertained so that they don’t wake their giant of a father!
