Artist Pakoto Martinez has a soft hand for coloring and a lively flair for meshing iconic sci-fi and video game imagery with a style that fans of Scott C.'s fantasy showdowns or the art direction The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS should be able to dig. What really sticks out in his work, however, is his ability to riff on existing characters and put his own twist on a sketch.

Captain Britain and Buzz Lightyear show up gently stylized on Pakoto's blog, but a surprise guest pops out of his take on R2-D2 and he imagines a bleak world without Mario in his portraits of Luigi and Princess Peach.

Pakoto's Edward Scissorhands tribute, Link in a spacesuit and the most adorable reinterpretation of "The Empire Strikes Back" that you'll see on the Internet today appear in our highlight reel below.
