We’ve known for quite some time that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is returning for The Wolverine sequel, though it hasn’t been made completely official. The actor himself hinted at the possibility last year, and when we asked Hugh Jackman about it directly, he would only confirm that there were “some ideas brewing.” By now, Professor X’s involvement is pretty much guaranteed, but in case you needed additional confirmation, Stewart has provided it.

As Stewart puts it in his tweet from this morning, his involvement with The Wolverine 2 is the “worst kept secret”:

He also uses the hashtag “Wolverine 3,” and I am still not sure why everyone is so determined to call The Wolverine sequel the third film in the series — I thought we all agreed to forget the terrible fever dream that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine? At any rate, The Wolverine 2 or The Wolverine 3, whatever it is, will reunite Stewart with Jackman for the latter’s final big screen outing as the iconic X-Men character.

Though plot details have yet to be officially released, the sequel will take some inspiration from Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan comic, which features an older, hardened Wolverine who is pulled out of retirement to help a friend. James Mangold is returning to direct the sequel, which also stars NarcosBoyd Holbrook as the villain, with Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal in supporting roles.

The untitled Wolverine sequel hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
