Everyone loves trivia about their favorite animated features and series, but with over 100 years of animation history behind us right now, there’s always some new obscure fact to learn. That’s why ComicsAlliance is going deep into the minutiae of your favorite names in cartoons in this continuing video series. You think you know cartoons? Well, here’s a few things you might not know!

This week we're taking a look at Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, the Powerpuff Girls! One of Cartoon Network's most popular series in the late '90s, this beloved show has been revamped and relaunched for new audiences in 2016. This video takes a look at the history of the series, from its beginning as a birthday card to its development as a short with a less appropriate-for-children title to its spread to other countries and media.

Show notes:

  • You can get the entirety of the original Powerpuff Girls series here, and if you haven't seen it, you should. It's the best.
  • You can watch the 2014 CGI special on Amazon Video here.
  • You can get the theatrical movie here, but, uh, I don't understand why it's so expensive.
  • If you have a Region 2 DVD player, you can get the Powerpuff Girls Z anime here.
  • The original DC Comics series is collected starting here. The IDW series is collected starting here. The Super Smash-Up series is collected here.

Check out some installments of our other video series below, and let us know which cartoon series you think we should cover next in You Think You Know Cartoons?
