Fans longing for the release of Prototype 2 on April 24 will have some comic book continuity to chew on while they wait. Every other week starting February 15, Dark Horse and Radical Entertainment will release one of three 12-page, $0.99 digital comics bridging the stories of the expected "M" for mature, mutation-filled open-world game Prototype and its upcoming sequel. Part one, "The Anchor," will be illustrated by Paco Díaz and follow original Prototype protagonist Alex Mercer. Part two, "The Survivors," will be drawn by Chris Staggs and see what becomes of New York residents trying to escape the Blacklight virus outbreak that plagues their city. Finally, "The Labyrinth," will feature art by Victor Drujiniu and explore the backstory of Prototype 2 protagonist Sgt. James Heller. From Dark Horse's official press release:

"We're always looking for meaningful ways to expand the PROTOTYPE universe, and Dark Horse Comics is an industry-leading creative powerhouse delivering best-in-class graphic storytelling that integrates deeply to the core of our IP," said Ken Rosman, Studio Head, Radical Entertainment. "With this partnership, our fans will finally be given answers to some dramatic loose ends from the first PROTOTYPE game, as well as the truth behind Alex Mercer's descent and evolution into a twisted shadow of his former self for PROTOTYPE 2."

Dark Horse hasn't announced plans to official collect these three digital comics into a printed volume, but depending on the success of the Prototype titles in the digital space, it seems like a possibility. Check out images from the upcoming Prototype 2 comics below:
