Don’t Even Trip Dawg: Rick and Morty, Steven Universe and More Coming to Quidd
The curious habit of collecting digital trading cards continues to grow, with major companies like Topps and Upper Deck holding center court. There’s plenty of room in the space for smaller companies to pick up the slack though, and as users of Quidd can attest, that app has being doing a more than serviceable job hitting more niche properties. Already hosting card and “sticker” sets based on Bob’s Burgers, Valiant comics, Star Trek and more, Quidd is now teaming up with Cryptozoic to bring some Cartoon Network favorites to fans eager for more Steven Universe, Rick and Morty and Adventure Time collectibles.
Now available on both iOS and Android, Quidd will kick this new partnership off with Rick and Morty cards and stickers. Shows like Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and the Powerpuff Girls will follow closely behind, but don’t have a presence within the app just yet. Rick and Morty has a landing page which you can follow to be informed when the cards and stickers based on the Adult Swim series are dropping.
Like other digital trading card apps, Quidd does offer its users free in-app currency to purchase card packs. Micro-transactions can be applied if you want to spend more than you’re awarded in a a given day, but Quidd is fairly generous with its free coins so that shouldn’t be of too much concern… unless you get addicted to collecting. The app even offers a number of free packs in a given day across all of its licenses, so fans can enjoy collecting without ever having to worry about spending a single penny.
Though we can’t see any of the upcoming card sets in the app just yet, Quidd did tease each of the announced sets with some animated GIFs. They show off not just the cards, but the packaging as well. You can take a look at what’s to come, as well as the full press release, below.
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Today, Quidd (http://www.quidd.co), the platform for digital collecting announces it has raised $6.75M in funding from strategic angels. Alongside the funding, Quidd unveils a new partnership with Cryptozoic Entertainment to roll out digital collectibles from critically-acclaimed and fan-favorite animated shows like Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, The Powerpuff Girls, and more from Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. The additional capital will enable the company to accelerate its mission to bring digital collecting to millennial super-fans everywhere.
Quidd offers a weird and wonderful new way for fans to connect with their favorite TV shows and with the broader geek community, all from the ease and convenience of a free app on their iOS or Android device. Like having Comic-Con in your pocket, Quidd allows geeks to go down the rabbit hole, buying, unboxing, collecting, trading, and showing off digital collectibles featuring their favorite animated, science-fiction, and fantasy characters.
“Collecting is too often misunderstood as something for older, mostly male, fanbases,” said Quidd co-founder Michael Bramlage. “With an eclectic assortment of content, an immersive digital-only experience, and fun, expressive products like stickers, Quidd is proving that the desire to collect and geek out with fellow fans is cutting edge and universal, encompassing millennials, female fans, and more. It’s no wonder that 70% of our fans have never collected physical stickers, cards, or toys before they purchased their first digital collectible on Quidd.”
The Quidd app and platform allows the world’s preeminent pop culture licensees and manufacturers, like Cryptozoic Entertainment—maker of popular Rick and Morty collectible card and tabletop games—to convert their popular physical products into digital collectibles for a whole new generation of super-fans. In the app, geeks can collect digital stickers for expressing themselves in iMessage chats, digital cards for trading and completing sets, and digital toys for playing and showcasing. And geeks are voting with their feet: over 100,000,000 digital items have been distributed already on Quidd.
With a dedicated fanbase of geeks, Quidd also features a real-time trading marketplace and chat platform for passionate, like-minded fans to meet, compare collections, exchange items, and connect over shared interests.
“Cryptozoic has been built on three pillars of products—games, collectibles, and trading cards—and our partnership with Quidd adds a fourth with digital collectibles,” said John Sepenuk, CEO of Cryptozoic Entertainment. “Quidd’s platform allows us to leverage our institutional knowledge and passion for creating compelling licensed products and tap into the thriving Quidd digital collecting community.”
