The most famous heroic Lombax/robot team in video games should instantly snag the equivalent status in comics when DC/WildStorm launches a new Ratchet and Clank series on September 3. The comics will pick up where the franchise last left off on the PlayStation 3 in 2009's "Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time" with a follow-up story by Insomniac Games senior writer T.J. Fixman and artwork by Adam Archer.

"After working on two full adventures and one downloadable mini-adventure, I'm extremely excited to help bring Ratchet and Clank to the comic book world," Fixman wrote in a message posted on the official PlayStation blog. "Over the years, we at Insomniac have watched like doting parents as the Ratchet & Clank mythology grew from a few small planets in the Solana Galaxy to a living, breathing universe full of fun characters and exotic alien worlds."The series will be coming out through PlayStation Digital Comics in the fall, so PlayStation Portable users will have the option of grabbing it through there as well. In that respect, the property's followers will get a Ratchet and Clank release for at least one gaming device in 2010, so they can't say they're being completely ignored this year.
