Casting details for Joss Whedon's SHIELD TV series have apparently been leaked online, potentially revealing five of the characters who may be leading the fight against everyday evil in the Marvel Universe (Small Screen Edition). Spoiler: There's a witty, smart female lead. Who could've seen that coming?TVLine revealed the descriptions of five characters from the pilot that it "obtained" yesterday:

SKYE | This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.

AGENT GRANT WARD | Quite the physical specimen and "cool under fire," he sometimes botches interpersonal relations. He's a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he's the kind of guy that grows on you.

AGENT ALTHEA RICE | Also known as "The Calvary," this hard-core soldier has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot. But her experiences have left her very quiet and a little damaged.

AGENT LEO FITZ and AGENT JEMMA SIMMONS | These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other's company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he's a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.

So far so... okay, I guess? There's nothing in any of these short descriptions that suggests characters that are anything beyond stereotypes at the moment, but at least it's easy to imagine each of the five interacting already - and half the fun of a Whedon series is watching the stereotype being manipulated and changed into something else entirely, after all.

Casting for the show is underway, with the pilot to be co-written and directed by Whedon in time for consideration for ABC's 2013-2014 television season.
