Recently, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been talking up the Spider-Man reboot, comparing the intended tone to something along the lines of John Hughes’ teen movies in the ‘80s. Have Marvel and Sony found the right writers to deliver that promise? The studios are eyeing the writers of another upcoming reboot to help reshape the web-slinger’s franchise.

According to Deadline, Sony and Marvel are in talks with Vacation writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein for the Spider-Man reboot. The duo are also responsible for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, the Horrible Bosses movies, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. The pair are certainly solid when it comes to wacky comedy with an edge, and Daley has some experience with coming of age stories thanks to his time as the young star of Paul Feig’s tragically short-lived Freaks and Geeks series.

The pair were also on the shortlist of potential directors for the project before Marvel and Sony ultimately went with Jon Watts, the director behind the upcoming indie drama-thriller Cop Car and the Eli Roth-produced horror film Clown — the former hits theaters in August, while the latter still has no U.S. release date, though it’s already been released in the U.K.

Tom Holland will play Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the reboot, making his debut first in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016 before swinging into action in his own solo film on July 28, 2017.
