‘Suicide Squad’ Rumor Explains Batman’s Involvement

Ben Affleck Batman Suicide Squad
Warner Bros.

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about David Ayer’s Suicide Squad over the last week or so, specifically pertaining to the Joker, which will reportedly be based on Frank Miller’s version of the iconic villain in The Dark Knight Returns. The last report only hinted at how Ben Affleck’s Batman might appear in the film, and today’s rumor expands on that a bit, shedding more light on the caped crusader’s role and how he’s viewed in this particular section of the DCU.

The rumor once again comes from Latino-Review’s Instagram account, which has been dropping some interesting reports about Ayer’s film. Last week, we heard that Leto’s Joker would be based on Miller’s celebrated graphic novel, and that the villain previously murdered one of Batman’s sidekicks.

Today’s report reveals more about Batman’s role in the film, specifically describing him as a “boogeyman” in Suicide Squad who is despised by the government. The rumor also supports an earlier report which revealed that Affleck’s Batman would appear in video footage only — an easy, quick cameo for the actor, who currently has quite a full schedule. For now, it seems like this cameo is the plan, though, unless Affleck can’t commit. It seems like they could shoot the cameo footage now while the actor is still working on Batman vs. Superman.

Check out more details below:

According to sources, in the film Batman is some sort of big boogeyman that the government REALLY hates. Get this, prior to the events in #BatmanvSuperman, THE JOKER is the only one to really ever meet him or know him and that’s why he’s so important to Amanda Waller. They have footage of Batman in action which they watch. There is a bit of dialogue where they say Batman is the key to tracking down all “the supers.” Very cool stuff.

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
