CBS’ Supergirl as of yet lacks a formal Season 2 renewal (given the fun of last night’s crossover, expect one any day), though that hasn’t stopped Kara from keeping an eye on Season 2. Not only is an erstwhile Wonder Woman likely to take part, but so too might Supergirl Season 2 bring in clone of Superman himself.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, but at least one plot quietly brewing through Supergirl’s first season has been that of Project Cadmus, a frequent source of genetic experimentation in comics that has produced a number of clone arcs. Only two episodes remain in Supergirl’s first season, more likely to follow the thread of “Myriad” than Cadmus, though producers say the latter will have a larger role in Season 2.

In particular, IGN questioned if Cadmus could potentially lead to the introduction of young Superman clone Superboy (more likely the clone Kon-El, or “Conner,” than any other iteration) as fans have suggested, to which executive producer Andrew Kreisberg producer teased:

[Cadmus] is going to remain more of an evil, specter-y thing that’s out there, but it’s definitely something that we’re going to pursue. You know, Cadmus has such a rich history in the comics and the animated shows. There’s so much there to mine. It’ll definitely be part of Season 2.

Granted there’s any number of characters and stories Project Cadmus might introduce in a second season, it would follow Supergirl’s tendency to work around the Man of Steel, as we saw with a young Kal-El in “For the Girl Who Has Everything.”

In the meantime, Supergirl will return on April 11, while we await news of a second season.
