Faster than a speeding bullet could announce that Supergirl would swoop in an official actor to play Superman, the Man of Steel is already here. Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin will officially don the boots and red cape, appearing as both Superman and Clark Kent in two episodes of the new CW season.

The Everybody Wants Some! star had heavily been suggested as a fan-favorite casting for the role, becoming the latest TV incarnation of Superman after Tom Welling’s Smallville Clark Kent, and Dean Cain’s Lois & Clark flyboy. So says Supergirl producer Andrew Kreisberg of the role:

Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.

Any Supergirl viewer well-remembers the awkward lengths to which CBS went to avoid featuring a full appearance from the character, only showing him at a distance, at different ages, or chatting with Kara over instant messages. Understandably, Supergirl wanted to keep the focus on Kara, though it appeared Warner Bros. had trepidation with two live-action versions of the Man of Steel.

Supergirl has plenty other questions to answer on the road to Season 2, as well as a multitude of new characters, but does Tyler Hoechlin fit the bill as our new Man of Steel?
