Blue Delliquanti Brings 'O Human Star' Volume Two To Life
This has been a tremendously exciting year for cartoonist Blue Delliquanti, whose webcomic O Human Star has gone from strength to strength. It's the story of brilliant inventor and roboticist Alastair Sterling, whose untimely death meant he never got to see how his innovations in the field changed the world... until the moment he woke up in a robotic body, and stepped out into a world populated by robots who are advancing and progressing in ways expected and thoroughly unexpected. Following a success Kickstarter to bring a first volume of the webcomic to print, Delliquanti has now returned to crowdfunding in order to deliver the second collected volume of the ongoing story. As the Kickstarter whirrs towards the target goal, Back Pages spoke to her about the series, how it has changed and surprised her over the years, and what to expect should her newest campaign prove a success.

Robots and Relationships: Should You Read 'O Human Star'?
Imagine waking up in a body that is your body, but isn't, 16 years after your death. The world has changed, partly through your own inventions. Another version of you exists, but she's not really you. Your old lover is still around, but maybe he doesn't need you anymore. Maybe this new world doesn't have a place for you at all. This is O Human Star.

Blue Delliquanti's webcomic O Human Star, about queer family drama and resurrection amidst a robot revolution, is now in its fourth year. During that time it has received the Prism Comics Queer Press Grant, and nominations for both the Ignatz and Lambda Literary awards. Delliquanti recently announced plans for a new graphic novel, Meal, starring a chef on a quest to establish insect cuisine as truly the bee's knees, coming in 2017 from Iron Circus Comics. ComicsAlliance sat down with Delliquanti at Flame Con to talk about queer comics and food shonen.

This week sees the launch of the Kickstarter to fund the latest of Kel McDonald and Kate Ashwin's Cautionary Fables and Fairy Tales anthologies, featuring folk tales recreated and reimagined by some of the finest independent small press and webcomic cartoonists in the business. After previous volumes focused on tales from Europe and Africa, the third volume is comprised of Asian folk tales from the storytelling traditions of China, India, Japan, Tibet, and beyond, adapted by an impressive roster of creators that includes E.K. Weaver, Carla Speed McNeil, Lucy Bellwood, Terry Blas, and Gene Yang. The Kickstarter is a third of the way towards its $29,000 goal, and with all the stories already completed and digital copies available from the $5 reward level, Cautionary Fables and Fairy Tales: Asia Edition is a safe bet for anyone who loves great comics or great storytelling. But if you still need convincing, we can whet your appetite with this unsettling Tibetan folk tale from O Human Star creator Blue Delliquanti, debuting exclusively on ComicsAlliance.

Kickstarter has really proven that the number of new, eager, ready comics writers and artists has been booming over the last few years. The number of anthologies and projects with a specific focus on those who don't usually get featured over at 'mainstream' publishers has been staggering, with each week bringing an array of fresh talent into the world of comics. One of the most recent is Oath, a queer comics anthology masterminded by Audrey Redpath. The anthology consists entirely of queer comics talent telling LGBT superhero stories. Featuring a host of new and established writers and artists, the book has already hit its funding target --- but it still has stretch goals to reach in its closing days.
