Welcome to Cast Party, the feature that imagines a world with even more live action comic book adaptations than we currently have, and comes up with arguably the best casting suggestions you’re ever going to find for the movies and shows we wish could exist. This week, I'm going with one of the classics: The Marvel Family, aka Shazam. In theory this is a movie that's actually going to be made, but I have no idea what that will look like, so I'm imagining my own.

Introduced in 1968, there a few women in comics with such a storied history of strength and determinaton as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. Carol is a character who works hard at building the brightest possible tomorrow and the best version of herself. It's precisely that kind of attitude that inspired Kamala Khan, the young hero from Jersey City, to adopt the Ms. Marvel codename when she came into powers of her own. No matter whether they’re taking on the mantle of Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel, these cosplayers bring the best of the hero to the surface on the convention floor. Recently, Marvel has been releasing teaser images with the tagline "Divided We..." featuring two characters separated by shattered imagery, and all we knew was that it pointed to the publisher's fall slate of comics set to be unveiled later this month under the Marvel NOW banner. Today, Marvel released a complete teaser titled "Divided We Stand," featuring two distinct groups of heroes and villains separated by a literal divide.

This month, the ladies of the Marvel Universe take center stage in the Marvel Collector Corps subscription box from Funko. It only took eight boxes to do it. I kid, I kid. Mostly. With the exception of Jane Foster's Thor in the Secret Wars box, we've been absent the likes of Marvel's biggest names on the female side of the company's roster. The contents of this box were certainly worth the wait however, as Captain Marvel, She-Hulk and Squirrel Girl all get some nice new merchandise. Why it took a special box for any of them to appear is something only Funko and Marvel know, but they're here now, so let's take a look inside this month's crate.

Oscar-winner Brie Larson is the current frontrunner for Captain Marvel, and though we’ve seen plenty of “frontrunners” ultimately passed over for major movie roles, this is one case where it’s difficult not to get your hopes up. And it looks like we’re not the only ones who think Larson would make a great Carol Danvers, as Captain America himself has given his official seal of approval.

Brie Larson is reportedly the frontrunner to play Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, the studio’s first solo female superhero movie — which is kind of a big deal for a lot of fans. The Oscar-winning star of Room is a great choice for the part, but back in 2015, she had no idea who Captain Marvel was. That’s probably changed quite a bit since this interview took place, but it’s still pretty delightful to see her reaction nonetheless.

Not long ago, Kevin Feige assured fans that Marvel would reveal the director and star of Captain Marvel most likely before the end of summer, if not the fall at the latest. Following yesterday’s report that Oscar-winner Brie Larson is in early talks for the title role comes word of two directors on the list of contenders to helm Marvel’s first solo female superhero film.

Variety reports that Marvel has its pick to play Captain Marvel in the MCU standalone movie of the same name, and it is Brie Larson, fresh off an Oscar win for Best Actress in Room. Before that she was outstanding in the little indie Short Term 12, playing a woman who works with at-risk youth. She’ll soon be seen as a member of the ensemble in the big-budget Kong reboot Kong: Skull Island. And perhaps after that she’ll become the first Marvel hero to get her own solo film.
