Marvel Unveils A Dozen Covers For Final Issue Of 'Darth Vader'
Darth Vader, by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca, is coming to an end with issue #25. To mark the occasion, Marvel is releasing the issue with 12 different covers. The main cover is by Juan Gimenez, and looks like it could be the poster for a Darth Vader movie. Adi Granov offers a similarly cinematic cover, which also features Doctor Aphra, BT-1, and 0-0-0, the supporting cast of the series. They appear on a few of the other covers, while the rest focus on the Dark Lord of the Sith himself.

With Disney throwing a massive amount of resources behind their new Star Wars property, one of the more interesting things to come out of Star Wars Celebration was the news that Luscasfilm would not shy away from using emerging technologies like virtual reality to tell Star Wars stories. Case in point? A brand new Darth Vader virtual reality experience, which the folks at Entertainment Weekly have written up alongside quotes from the producers and crew.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics. This week we’re taking a look at the five baddest “Darths” from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Sideshow Announces Ralph McQuarrie Darth Vader Statue
For all the heavy lifting he did designing much of the look and feel of the Star Wars universe, there really isn't a whole lot of Ralph McQuarrie-inspired merchandise out there. Yes, obviously there were plenty of other massively, massively talented artists working on what would become The Trilogy, but McQuarrie's conceptualization of this galaxy far, far away established not just the tone of this world, but inspired more than a proportionate share of imitators. Still, beyond prints and art books, McQuarrie's original work is fairly non-existent. Which is surprising given that Star Wars merchandise is the reason for all merchandise, and it's been around since 1977. Thankfully, Sideshow's recently picked up the gauntlet of bringing the artist's work to the physical realm with a series of statues. Already the line features that iconic soldier, the Stortrooper, and the human hype machine, Boba Fett, who I guess is technically a bounty hunter that just sucks at getting bounties. Now the most fearsome of the Empire's agents gets the royal treatment, as McQuarrie's Darth Vader lives once more.

The Dark Side: The Best 'Star Wars' Villains Art Ever
For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. And what an Empire it was! Just as the Star Wars universe is lauded and loved for its heroes, those heroes would have no way to prove their bravery and valor without the best bad guys in the galaxy. Sure the Joker and Loki are incredibly popular, but Star Wars has the power to take characters with one or two lines of dialogue and make them full blown cultural icons. Or make dozens of highly sought after action figures based on characters with zero lines of dialogue who do little more than briefly stand around in the background. Vader famously said, “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side”, but let’s celebrate that power with this small collection of fan art and see if we can’t get a better idea.

Just in time for the return of his burned out helmet in the latest Star Wars film, Sideshow Collectibles has announced the Darth Vader life-size bust. For just under 40 years, the Sith Lord has been a science-fiction icon, and in that time he's had a great number of collectibles celebrating his ominousness. Few however have been as grand as this 27" recreation of his imposing visage. While Darth Vader won't necessarily be in The Force Awakens, that doesn't mean the Rebel nemesis is suddenly not going to be a part of the universe. In the lead-up to the seventh Star Wars, many of the new expanded universe stories have given some hints and details about Anakin Skywalker's legacy some 30 years after his death. If you've seen even a single trailer for The Force Awakens you've seen some glimpses of how Vader is worshiped in this new canon. Sideshow's new bust might not be exactly the same as the real, flamed out husk in Episode VII, but you wouldn't want to display something that gross anyway.
