Welcome to Cast Party, the feature that imagines a world with even more live action comic book adaptations than we currently have, and comes up with arguably the best casting suggestions you’re ever going to find for the movies and shows we wish could exist. This week we're doing one that's been in the back of my mind for a while: A Disney Uncle Scrooge movie.
This movie will of course be an epic, globe-trotting adventure for the whole family. It'll be based primarily on the comics by Carl Barks and Don Rosa, but I've incorporated elements and characters from the classic Ducktales TV series, mostly because they already solved some of the problems of adaptation. Uncle Scrooge himself would be the first to point out that it's wasteful to reinvent the wheel.
Life is like a hurricane, with all these reboots and revivals coming at us. It's a duck-blur. But today on Twitter, Disney got everyone's attention by releasing the first promotional image from the new incarnation of Ducktales, which arrives on Disney XD in 2017. The image was first tweeted from the Twitter account of Disney D23, the official Disney fan club, and was then shared by other official Disney sources.
DuckTales is coming back with even more tales of daring do, bad and good luck tales as Disney XD announced that they're bringing back the 80s cartoon with a new animated series set to launch in 2017. Uncle Scrooge, Huey, Dewey and Louie will all be return and they just might solve a mystery. Or rewrite history!
It looks like Capcom's recently released DuckTales Remastered isn't the only game in town when it comes to adventuring with Uncle Scrooge and Launchpad. Disney has rolled out an all-new and all-different kind of game featuring Duckburg's wealthiest resident called DuckTales: Scrooge's Loot on iOS and Android. Unlike the DuckTales games on NES and Game Boy and the new DTR, Scrooge's Loot isn't a sidescrolling adventure title, but rather a 3D multiplayer battle game complete with feathered customizable characters. Considering this is a game starring the miserly McDuck, it's also a bit surprising to find out the mobile title is free.
We've written in the past about our love of Mondo's poster series, but these new DuckTales posters might be our favorites (or maybe just Chris Sims' favorites). Celebrating the release of the DuckTales: Remastered video game from Capcom, WayForward and Disney Interactive, Mondo has commissioned four new posters by artists JJ Harrison, Anne Benjamin, Phantom City Creative and DKNG featuring the denizens of Duckburg. Between these, Remastered's release and Fantagraphics' beautiful reproductions of the Carl Barks Duck comics, it's a fine time to be a fan of anthropomorphic ducks who almost uniformly refuse to wear pants.
When I was nine years old, I literally begged my parents for Capcom's Ducktales game for the NES. It was all I wanted for Christmas, and fortunately for me, it ended up being one of the greatest games of the era, to the point where it's still my gold standard for games built around running to the right and jumping on bad guys' heads. That said, you can imagine how thrilled I was when Capcom announced that they were doing a new "remastered" version for the current generation of consoles, and after getting a chance to play it at Comic-Con, I'm even more excited for it now.
You know, much as I love video games, I could probably stop paying attention to PAX East new the rest of the weekend and be content. Why? Twenty long years since the release of DuckTales 2 on NES and Game Boy, Capcom and WayForward (and Disney) have announcedDuckTales Remastered...
