Mondo Has A New ‘The Dark Knight’ Print By Jock Available At Emerald City Next Weekend

The Dark Knight print by Jock

Eight years is certainly long enough for the bloom to wear off the rose a bit, but we can all agree that 2008's The Dark Knight is still at least a pretty good movie, right? I mean, Batman suplexes a truck in that film, and while there are certainly other concerns to be taken into account when you're trying to decide the merits of a piece of media, you can't get around the fact that Batman suplexes a truck, and that has to count for something.

Point being, if you're a fan what Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, and Heath Ledger did in that movie and you're also going to Emerald City Comic-Con in Seattle next weekend, April 7-10, you might want to go ahead and clear a spot on your wall, because Mondo is releasing its latest print, in which Jock takes on The Dark Knight with predictably awesome results.

Conventional Conduct: How to Ask Questions at a Comic-Con Panel

question

Convention season is upon us once more, which means thousands of comic book fans will descend on the hotels and convention centers of North America (and the world) to be consumed wholesale by nerd nirvana. They will stand in long lines, they will press through huge crowds, and they will eat a salty pretzel for lunch for three or four days in a row. And there will be panels. And that means Q&A sessions. And that means long, awkward questions from nervous and and overwhelmed fans.

We can't do anything to help with the lines, the crowds, or your sodium intake, but we do want to help make those Q&A sessions a little more comfortable, so we've put together seven simple suggestions to help attendees ask better questions. This makes life better for the questioners, the panelists, and everyone else in the room. Think of it as a little convention etiquette guide, and think of ComicsAlliance as your Emily Post-Crisis.

Emerald City Comicon is now part of ReedPOP. ComicsAlliance has confirmed that as part of the acquisition of ECCC, director Jim Demonakos and his staff will remain not just with ECCC, but actually join ReedPOP in expanded roles that will see them involved with organizing and executing other conventions as well, both in the United States and internationally. Indeed, in this exclusive interview with Demonakos and ReedPOP vice present Lance Fensterman, the new union's stated goal is to find ways for " what makes Emerald City so much fun for creators to be infused into New York and C2E2."

Kate Leth and Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Carol Corps Memories [Interview]

Untitled-1

Last week's Emerald City Comicon kicked off, for me, with the Carol Corps Celebration at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. Hosted by a bevy of nerdy Captain Marvel enthusiasts and featuring some of the finest cosplay I saw all weekend, proceeds from tickets and exclusive merchandise went  to benefit the Girls Leadership Institute. It's a rare thing for fans and creators to celebrate a superhero character in such a thematically specific and highly interactive way -- Carol Danvers is a military pilot, after all, and the new Ms. Marvel is herself a member of the Carol Corps -- and a woman superhero at that. But the event was an absolutely joyful experience that spoke to the good work being done in these comics and readers' enthusiasm for great women heroes (both fictional and real-life).

Photos from the Oni Press/Comics Alliance Party at Emerald City Comicon 2014

Untitled-1

In case you missed the flyer we were spamming for two weeks before the event, ComicsAlliance teamed up with Oni Press and Emerald City Comicon for an epic crossover event that took the form of a convention kickoff party last Thursday in Seattle. The affair was very well attended, with comics pros, bloggers and readers rolling in throughout the night to party/laugh/smile/chill/drink. The party was DJ'd by our own Senior Editor Andy Khouri, whose playlist was peppered with Oni-related works from the Scott Pilgrim film soundtrack, 8-bit versions of Daft Punk and even a track performed by Bryan Lee O'Malley himself (you can see the full setlist here).

The event was photographed by local shooter, comics reader and notoriously friendly human being Ed Peterson with John Kieltyka. The sense of fun and friendship conveyed by their photos very accurately document the overall vibe of ECCC, and his work helped set the tone for one of our favorite shows in recent memory.

This year's Emerald City Comicon kicks off tonight, beginning a weekend in Seattle that for many fans and industry professionals is the most comics-related fun a person can have except for actually reading comics. ECCC has earned a reputation for its grand ambiance of community and creativity, as evidence by the wide variety of scene-specific panels and other celebrations presented throughout the weekend. Obviously the ComicsAlliance staff is very fond of ECCC and have been privileged to participate in some of those events.

If you're inclined to listen to what we have to say or ask us questions or check out some of the non-CA comics stuff we do, read on to learn where and when to catch the CA contributors this weekend in Seattle..
