Both Arrow and The Flash have made entire industries of geek-friendly casting, so it’s only fair Legends of Tomorrow follow the trend. Fan-favorite Firefly falum (okay, alum) Jewel Staite will cross paths with the Legends of Tomorrow later this season, and may herself have some famous DC forebears.

I was an unabashed fan of the 1989 Batman movie around the time of its release (particularly after it hit VHS), but the years have worn down my appreciation of it, and quite a few aspects of it don't entirely stand up to the scrutiny of a critical lens anymore. There are a few pieces of media related to the film, however, that I feel just as positively about as I ever have. The Prince soundtrack, for one. And for another, the Sunsoft-developed game for the Nintendo Entertainment System that included a few cutscenes with lines from the movie, and largely ditched its plot otherwise. I took a stroll down memory lane with it, and it still holds up.

Though Buffy has legions of fans, and The Avengers is the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, many would argue that Joss Whedon’s greatest contribution to nerd culture is the Serenity universe. A moving sci-fi/western with equal parts darkness, humor, and heart, even cancellation couldn’t kill it. After the Serenity movie finished up the tale that Firefly never got a chance to finish, Dark Horse started sporadically publishing comics to bridge the gap, and loyal Browncoats have been lapping them up ever since. Now a new mini-series will be picking up the story after the movie, the six-issue Leaves on the Wind by Zack Whedon and Georges Jeanty, and it’s looking like this will be the last Serenity comic with a Whedon in the writer’s credit for quite some time. With that in mind, here’s a look at all the Serenity comics so far, how they fit into the timeline, and the leftover secrets from Firefly that they reveal.
