Guardians of the Galaxy
The MCU has been laying the groundwork for Captain America: Civil War for some time now, but there’s another, bigger war in Marvel’s future — one which will take a bit more preparation, as the two-part Avengers: Infinity War will send Phase 3 out in epic fashion, bringing many of our favorite superheroes together in the ultimate battle. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are currently wrapping things up with Civil War, but they’re already looking ahead to their next big Marvel project, which will unite the MCU…maybe even with the Guardians of the Galaxy in tow.
If Arrow bore an unabashed influence from Batman Begins, and early Flash borrowed a bit from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow isn’t even trying to conceal its Guardians of the Galaxy vibe. Get weird in the ‘70s, as the team brawls to some vintage tunes in the latest Legends trailer of our January premiere.
Chris Pratt is at it again. The actor is not only known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, but for often using his fame for a good cause by visiting children’s hospitals. Earlier this year, Pratt donned his Star-Lord costume to visit some special friends, and this time he’s back with a very adorable little friend: Baby Groot.
Breaking news: Kurt Russell is a busy guy who doesn’t have time to keep up with all these Marvel movies and superhero what’s-its. If you were Kurt Russell, aka Snake Plissken, aka Captain Ron, aka R.J. MacReady, aka Stuntman Mike, aka a Stone Cold Badass, would you make watching all the latest movies a priority? No, which is why it should not come as a shock that Russell has yet to watch Guardians of the Galaxy — even though he’s in talks for a very important role in its sequel.
After the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy film, Marvel's gone all in on its spacefaring adventurers. Where once the group was lucky to have one book being published, you can now find various titles starring the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy in print, including multiple team books and solo books. It's quite a time to be a fan of Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Gamorra and Drax.
Even with that in mind, it was a bit of a surprise to learn that the final box of 2015 for the Marvel Collector Corps would focus on the intergalactic squad of misfits. Funko's usually found a way to tie its boxes to major comic events or film releases, but both the previous box (Villains) and this latest one have spun out from their own little worlds, independent of Marvels grand publishing and cinematic plans.
It might be for the best that this scene never made it into the final cut of Guardians of the Galaxy, since it might have inspired a terrible mash-up t-shirt with a drunk Drax in Joker makeup asking, “You wanna know how I got these scars?” Still, if you were curious about Drax’s tattoos in Guardians, this deleted scene has your answer.

James Gunn is — unsurprisingly — playing things pretty close to the vest with Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and while he’s addressed several fan questions via social media, he’s only mostly told us who and what won’t be in the sequel. But now we know someone new who most definitely is joining Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and the rest of the Guardians in their next adventure, and she’s not a name you’re likely to recognize.
