Music and comics. Like chocolate and peanut butter, they're two great tastes that taste undeniably great together. Until 14th May, London's Orbital Comics store is celebrating the union of the two art forms with the 'Cover Versions' exhibition.
As part of the event, 14 comic artists have created new cover art for some their favorite albums. If you've ever wanted to see Christian Ward covering Radiohead's Kid A, or a mash-up of The Beatles' Abbey Road with Morrison's New X-Men --- and if you didn't previously know you needed these in your life, you do now --- then look no further.
The first thing I saw when I went to check out Isaac Lenkiewicz's art was a post about how he messed up his hand falling off a skateboard, so even before I got too far, I was pretty sure I was going to like what he had to offer. Turns out, I was right: The stuff he posts at his website, including short comics inspired by Die Hard, sumo-wrestling giants and Bart Simpson fighting a vampire with a skateboard? Turns out that is exactly my jam, and "Challenge Bear" might be my new favorite character.
While The Simpsons remains an entertaining and endearing cultural touchstone, after almost 25 years on TV, even the most die-hard fans would have trouble claiming that the show is in its prime. The artists at The Simpsons Drawing Club, however, remind fans why they'll never stop loving the series with a blend of beautiful, mildly discomforting and hilarious Simpsons tributes...
