If you listed every comics publisher based on how much you associate them with superhero comics, Fantagraphics would be somewhere near the bottom. The prestigious indie publisher has been around since 1976, publishing underground comics as well as beautiful collections of classic comic strips. But in spring 2017, Fantagraphics is getting in the superhero game with All Time Comics, a line of shared-universe books spearheaded by brothers Josh and Samuel Bayer.
Sure, artist/writer Johnny Ryan's Prison Pit is a series of graphic novels that escalates its depictions of violence and all-around immorality to such a level that readers assume that there's no possible way Ryan can top himself, and then he does. But do the drawings move?
Well, they didn't, until now. If you're in the Los Angeles area, you can go see what promises to be an X-rated animated version of the books, now five volumes deep into the grotesque, occasionally genitals-based brutality of the inhabitants of the hellish titular pit. It'll be at Cine Family on August 30.

Kids' entertainment network Nickelodeon has announced a 26-episode order for new animated series from a pair of cartoonists who might seem unlikely on first blush. Pig Goat Banana Cricket, about four friends who happen to be a pig, a goat, a banana and a cricket, comes from the minds of alternative cartoonists Johnny Ryan and Dave Cooper.
