Liz Prince, Amanda Kirk and Hannah Fisher's upcoming Coady and the Creepies is a punk-rock spookfest about a band of triplet sisters traveling the country on tour and realizing they have a closer connection to the supernatural than they maybe thought. To celebrate the release of the first issue next week, Liz Prince teamed-up with Danny Bailey of The Jabbers to bring The Creepies' signature song "Creepies R Go!" to life, and then Boom Box turned it into a lyric video which debuts today.

This weekend in Seattle is Emerald City Comicon, and Boom Studios will be there with a bunch of cool stuff you won't be able to get anywhere else. My personal favorite is an exclusive variant cover for Coady and the Creepies #1 by the book's writer, Liz Prince, which features the eponymous band climbing on Seattle's famous Fremont Troll statue. The best con-exclusive variants always have a sense of place, but Boom's bringing more than just that.

It's hard being a young punk rock band on the road. It got even harder for Corey, Criss, and Coady, three sisters who make up a band called the Creepies, when an accident left Corey with a scarred face, Criss in a wheelchair, and Coady dead. But they can't give up now, when the band's just started getting attention. So all three of them keep going, including Coady. Maybe being a ghost will make her an even better drummer.

In her new memoir Tomboy, Liz Prince explores the thorny world of gender expression, puberty, and girlhood, as experienced by someone who bucked every norm of it. It’s not always an easy read, but it is one of the most necessary comics published this year. Prince’s work is tender, wry, and above all, honest. It is this honesty that so illuminates her work, from the single travails of Alone Forever to her chronicles of the punk scene. One of the great thing about the Adventure Time comics -- and there are a lot of great things about the Adventure Time comics -- is how great they are for telling stories with the familiar Cartoon Network characters that you could only really tell in comics.
