Steel Yourself For Matt Fraction & Christian Ward’s ‘ODY-C’ With This Prologue That Will Not Be In The Comic

OdyCPrologueLede

When it was announced back in January, we knew three things about ODY-C, the new Image series by writer Matt Fraction and artist Christian Ward: It was a retelling of The Odyssey, would take place in space, and the characters would all be gender-swapped.

What wasn't as clear was just how trippy and brutal it would be, but if the five-page prologue Ward posted to his Tumblr last week is indicative of what the whole series will be like, those are the words to describe it.

Ward was sure to note that these pages won't appear in the first issue of ODY-C, so get a good look at the prologue -- with its positively luminous color palette, sometimes unorthodox panel layouts, and one big scene of someone getting sliced in two with a sword -- now.

Among the colorful cosplay, massive booths, interactive displays and walls of merchandise at Comic-Con International in San Diego — colloquially known as SDCC — remains the most important component of the show: comic book creators. ComicsAlliance photographer and Loikiamania podcast host Pat Loika hit the show floor to catch the men and women who tell our favorite stories in sequential art and captured the enthusiasm that comes from fans getting to meet their favorite storytellers at one of the biggest conventions of the year.

Check back with ComicsAlliance throughout the weekend for more of Pat’s great photos from San Diego.

‘Sex Criminals’ Returns For A Second Story Arc But Something’s Missing (Jon’s Penis) [Preview]

Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky

I don't know if it's even really necessary to tell anyone that they should be reading Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky's Sex Criminals, but on the off chance that you've been sleeping on the story of two bank robbers with hearts of gold and time-stopping orgasms, you really oughtta get on that, and this week is a pretty good time to get to it. With Sex Criminals #6, Fraction and Zdarsky are kicking off their second story arc with the return of Jon and Susie. Or at least, the return of most of Jon and Susie. See, there's a piece missing, and one assumes that this is going to cause all kinds of problems over the next few issues.

Image Expo Roundup: New Titles From Brubaker, Morrison, Fraction, Burnham, DeConnick, Snyder And More

Image Expo top

One of the most significant -- and to many readers, one of the most exciting -- developments in comics in the last few years has been the growth of Image Comics, with many of the most popular writers and artists in the industry currently producing much, if not all, of their creator owned work through the publisher. As such, Image Expo has become a highly anticipated event, as publisher Eric Stephenson uses the annual show to announce several upcoming books from both established and new talent.

Today's Image Expo continued that tradition, as more than a dozen new titles were announced, from Ed Brubaker, Grant Morrison, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Chris Burnham, Matt Fraction, Rick Remender and more.
