NBC has put into development Powerless, a — and we’re in no way joking here — workplace comedy set amid the backdrop of DC superheroes and their destructive battles.

After a vague announcement way back in February 2014, NBC’s Heroes has finally made good on its threat to return as the revived Heroes Reborn. No mere teaser, our first full footage sees plenty of heroes on the run, old and familiar faces alike, while the network’s full synopsis teases a major tragedy, and not just that Heroes Reborn is actually happening.

NBC’s Constantine has traversed a rocky road, suffering in ratings, enduring an accidental early cancellation, then an official one, and at long last John Constantine may have finally met his match. No amount of the supernatural can conjure salvation from Constantine’s latest fate, as showrunner Daniel Cerone says the show is officially over.

NBC has taken its Heroes Reborn gag impressively far with the crafting of an actual trailer shown at the upfronts (though one that curiously never surfaced online), and now another returning cast member has pledged to the elaborate joke. Prior series star Greg Grunberg will turn his head and squint through NBC’s Heroes Reborn revival, at least until the network decides its ridiculous prank has gone far enough.

NBC’s cancellation of Constantine set off the familiar scramble to find the series a new home, though showrunner Daniel Cerone seemed optimistic The CW might look to add to its growing DC stable, with whom crossover talks have already occurred. Not so it seems, as The CW may not be Constantine’s salvation after all.

Arrow Season 3 will wind down this week as Constantine frantically scours the tube for a new home after its NBC cancellation, but could the two end up intertwined? Stephen Amell has expressed an interest in doing a crossover with DC’s demon-fighting detective, which apparently has almost come to fruition before.

A few weeks ago, word of NBC’s early Constantine cancellation was met by slight backpedal and a firm insistence from creator Daniel Cerone that the Hellblazer might yet live. Tragically, NBC’s Constantine has officially conjured its last, for serious this time.

Amid the flurry of new superhero TV series in development, NBC’s Constantine never quite caught on the way DC’s A-List CW stars or even Marvel’s minimalist approach did. Now, a report has surfaced suggesting NBC might formally have pulled the plug on Constantine, leaving the demon-fighting detective without a home (for now).

This Friday will see NBC airing the last of its initial 13-episode ‘Constantine’ order, certainly a worrying notion for those concerned by the network’s recent exclusion of the DC drama among multiple renewals. There may yet be hope for ‘Constantine’ however, as NBC is reportedly considering moving a second season to Syfy, and allowing a bit more creative freedom.
