Valiant's 'Book of Death' to Skip Ahead To The End
While other superhero comics publishers are mining their pasts for big crossover events this spring and summer, Valiant is blasting ahead into the future, specifically, its characters' end times. The new, four-issue event series Book of Death, written by Robert Venditti and with art by Robert Gill and Doug Braithwaite, promises to reveal how characters including Ninjak, Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, Toyo Harada and others will bite it, be redeemed, be replaced, or otherwise change in the future.

Matt Kindt Talks About 'Ninjak' and 'Divinity'
On the surface, Valiant's Ninjak is an almost silly fantasy character: He's a hyper-capable ninja with the word "ninja" in his name. He's also a British spy. He lives in a castle. The first issue of the new Ninjak series by writer Matt Kindt and artists Clay Mann and Butch Guice certainly embraces those preteen wish-fulfillment elements, but adds some surprising depth, too, with character flashbacks and quieter moments that dig deep into who this updated version of Colin King really is. We sat down with Kindt to talk about how he struck a balance between the silly and the serious in the new series, as well as the trippy sci-fi action of Divinity, his new Valiant series with artist Trevor Hairsine, which debuted earlier this month.

AW SNAP Y'ALL, NINJAK IS BACK! Seriously, folks, I cannot tell you how excited I am about this. Ninjak, if you don't know, is a ninja named Ninjak, and my love for him just based solely on that is as pure and unironic as you are likely to find, and I've been waiting for him to slice his way back into an ongoing series since Valiant first relaunched. But if that simple fact isn't enough for you, here's something that might get you a little more interested: The new ongoing series, kicking off in March from Matt Kindt, Clay Mann and Butch Guice, is hitting shelves with 40 pages per issue, including a full length lead and a new origin story, all for $3.99. And it also involves Ninjak fighting a lady whose hair can cut through metal and start fires. Could we have found... the perfect comic book?

Matt Kindt And Jeff Lemire Discuss 'The Valiant' [Interview]
Matt Kindt and Jeff Lemire, the co-writers of the upcoming miniseries The Valiant -- a prestige-format miniseries featuring Bloodshot, Geomancer and Eternal Warrior -- have each done superhero work in the past, but they've really made their names with creator-owned work that they wrote and drew. Kindt's Mind MGMT has taken off, and Lemire struck a chord with series including Sweet Tooth and Trillium. Those credentials are part of why Valiant invited the two creators to work on the new miniseries -- one that's being touted as an entry point for new readers, but also as a turning point for the whole Valiant Universe. They've been given some wiggle room to develop a character-based story and put their creative voices to work. The result is something both writers seem really proud of, not to mention a story that's bound to look good, with artwork by Paolo Rivera. We sat down with Lemire and Kindt at San Diego Comic-Con International to ask them about their collaboration, how their backgrounds in cartooning inform their superhero work, and how Valiant's universe differs from others.
