Ever since it was announced, I was pretty sure that Alex de Campi and Fernando Ruiz's Archie vs. Predator was going to be everything I wanted out of comics. Now, with the first issue out, I know for a fact that's true --- at the very least, it's my favorite Predator crossover of all time, replacing even the one where Judge Dredd takes his shirt off and fights a Predator with a knife alongside Dutch's granddaughter. But really, that first issue is just the tip of an alarmingly violent iceberg, which is why I spoke to de Campi about how she prepared for the series, why she's so drawn to writing Betty, Veronica, and the medium of emojis, and why she wanted to give Dilton a giant robot Archie that he could use to fight aliens. Really.

The Most Strange-erous Game: Predator's Weirdest Hunting Trips
Aside from their first initial, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Archie Andrews have never had all that much in common. That changed this week, when Dark Horse Comics released Archie Vs. Predator, and the alien big game hunter that menaced a dirty, sweaty, well-muscled cast lead by Schwarzenneger in the 1987 film Predator set his sites on Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and their quite killable gang. In film, Predators have been mostly content to hunt humans, and aliens from the Aliens franchise, across a series of five films — Predator, Predator 2, AVP: Alien Vs. Predator, Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem and Predators — but in comics, they've pursued and usually failed to obtain some pretty exotic skulls.

Fernando Ruiz Talks 'Archie Vs Predator'
Even though it was announced months ago, I'm still having a hard time believing that we live in a magical world where Alex de Campi and Fernando Ruiz's Archie Vs Predator is a real thing that is happening. Even in a time when the company's most critically successful book is a moody supernatural horror story where the entire cast is about two seconds away from being murdered by zombies, Archie Vs Predator still seems like a beautiful, beautiful dream. That's why, in order to confirm that this is in fact happening, I spoke to Ruiz about what it's like to send the Predator to Riverdale, and how it compares to drawing Betty riding a dragon.

Archie/Dark Horse Announces 'Archie Meets Predator'
It was just the other day that I was writing about how I never really understood why comics were always crossing over with the Predator, but today, I have officially been convinced that it's all worth it. Archie Comics and Dark Horse have announced Archie Meets Predator, coming next spring from writer Alex De Campi and artist Fernando Ruiz. The Predator, an alien from space who comes to Earth in order to hunt the deadliest and most skilled humans alive, will join The Punisher, KISS and the cast of Glee in the illustrious and growing roster of unlikely Archie crossovers, and while Frank Castle took a few shots at our redheaded hero, it seems like the Predator is the one most bent on doing violence to our Riverdale pals.

'Predator Vs. Dredd Vs. Aliens' Is As Awesome As It Sounds
There are a lot of things that happen regularly in comics that I've never really understood, and chief among them has been the sheer number of superhero crossovers with Aliens and Predator. I mean, I understand wanting to see Aliens and Predators fight each other because they're both these mysterious, lethal alien enemies, where one's a cunning, vicious hunter and the other's an almost mindless biologically driven killing machine, a natural contrast that makes them cool opponents for each other and a deadly combination for anyone who gets trapped between them. The thing I don't get is why you'd want to throw Superman or Batman in there, if only because of the sheer amount of storytelling gymnastics you have to do to make it work. And yet, they happen all the time, and I have long since accepted that it's Just Not My Thing. And then I read Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens, and now I get it. Mostly because the first story in this collection ends with Dredd taking off his shirt (while leaving his helmet on, of course), and fighting the Predator with a knife.

Back in March, I spoke with Kelly Sue DeConnick about the unorthodox creative process behind Dark Horse's new Prometheus/Alien/Predator comics. Essentially, DeConnick and four other writers -- Paul Tobin, Chris Roberson, Christopher Sebela and Joshua Williamson -- got in a room together and hammered out one big story that will be told in a collection of miniseries. DeConnick had a huge notebook in which she collected a sort of series bible. Now, those comics are about to be released into the world, starting with Prometheus: Fire and Stone by Tobin and artist Juan Ferreyra on Sept. 10. Dark Horse has released a trailer that digs into the process a bit and reveals a little about one of the characters who will appear throughout the series, Angela Foster.

Power Rangers Meets Predator In Froggy Fresh's New Video
Rapper Froggy Fresh (formerly known as Krispy Kreme until a certain vendor of fried pastries told him he couldn't do that anymore) has released a music video that should certainly appeal to fans of Power Rangers, Predators getting kicked in the chest, and hip-hop. (In other words, probably the exact sort of person that reads ComicsAlliance.) In "Street Rangers," Froggy Fresh and his best friend Mike discover a pair of Morphin' Watches and find themselves blessed with the ability to become super sentai sorts. Soon after, they come across a Predator bullying a kid at a playground, as Predators are apt to do when they're not destroying large sections of South American jungle or wreaking havoc in Los Angeles.
