Ryan Reynolds’ wish for a proper Deadpool and Wolverine crossover movie may never come true, but the actor has apparently achieved something pretty close with a small cameo in Logan. According to a new report, the actor recently filmed a scene for Hugh Jackman’s final bow as Wolverine, though it’s unclear if we’ll actually see the two characters share the screen when Logan hits theaters next spring.

It took several years, but the tenacious actor’s commitment to getting a proper Deadpool movie off the ground finally paid off (in a huge way), which has Reynolds thinking that maybe it’s time for the Merc With the Mouth and Old Man Logan to get the band back together.

Not long after director Tim Miller exited the Deadpool sequel over creative differences with Ryan Reynolds, reports revealed the reason behind the split: Miller, a VFX pro, wanted to make a more polished (and more expensive) sequel, while Reynolds (and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick) wanted to stick to the scrappy (and less expensive) style that made the first film such a hit. Now, with John Wick co-director David Leitch at the helm, Reynolds and producer Simon Kinberg have offered a quick update on Deadpool 2, including words of praise for Leitch and a promise to make sure the sequel is in keeping with its predecessor.

It left the producers in something of a bind, scrambling to lock down new talent before principal photography gets going early next year.

The original Deadpool costume was padded with fake muscles. But when Ryan Reynolds showed up to play everyone’s favorite Merc With a Mouth, he had so many actual muscles, that the fake muscles looked ridiculous and made the costume too bulky. X-Men: Apocalypse opened in the United States in May; after five weeks in theaters it’s starting to wind down its domestic theatrical run. (Last weekend it grossed an estimated $2.4 million on about 1600 screens.)
