As you know from our weekly Best Cosplay Ever feature, we are big fans of cosplay at ComicsAlliance. The comics, sci-fi, gaming and fantasy communities’ talents for homemade disguises, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics are definitely on display this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, and you’d better believe our own Pat Loika is on hand to document as much as he can. Scroll down for some exceptional examples of superheroic cosplaying talent that we spotted in San Diego!

Remender And Opena Team For ‘Avengers: Rage Of Ultron’ Original Graphic Novel

rage-of-ultron-hed

Marvel unveiled its next original graphic novel at the All-AXIS panel at San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon; Avengers: Rage of Ultron, by Uncanny Avengers writer Rick Remender and former lead Avengers artist Jerome Opeña. It promises to be... all the rage. Ho ho.

The story pits a mixed bag of Avengers against a "Planet Ultron" formed when Ultron takes over the computer core in Saturn's moon of Titan (which is a thing that exists in the Marvel Universe and, who knows, maybe in ours as well). Ultron creator Hank Pym may be able to save the day... but at what cost?

Master Storyteller Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez To Draw Harlan Ellison’s Lost Batman ’66 Episode For DC Digital

Untitled-1

The hits keep coming out of DC Comics' west coast digital comics division, whose senior editor Jim Chadwick announced at Comic-Con International that the next release from his Batman '66 line will be The Lost Episode. What makes this a big is twofold: the lost episode is indeed a lost episode of the classic 1960s television series starring Adam West and Burt Ward, and it was written by none other than Harlan Ellison; award-winning television, writer, novelist, comics scribe, and notorious litigant. Secondly, the special issue will be drawn by José Luis García-López, one of the best comic book artists of all time. Adapting the script for comics will be Len Wein, a legendary comics figure in his own right.

DC hasn't released clean images from the project yet, but we know that Ellison's unproduced script would have introduced Harvey "Two-Face" Dent into the television series.

New Portrait Of Ben Affleck’s Glorious Bat Chin Sighted In San Diego

Untitled-1

The cunning folks at DC Entertainment snuck an exclusive new image of Ben Affleck's Batman out into the world by hiding it in plain sight at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The DC booth features a montage of Batman images celebrating the Dark Knight's 75th anniversary -- and in among those images is a never-before-seen picture of Batfleck's impressive Bat chin in profile.

We already saw a fuzzy glimpse of Batfleck from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder earlier this year -- and we noticed at the time how very Frank Millery it looks. Earlier today we also gawked at Batfleck's cape and cowl on the convention floor -- and it was but a spectral apparition without a meaty Ben Affleck to fill it.

Comic-Con Cosplay Spotlight: The Most Depressed Homer Simpson Ever

Untitled-1

Spotted by ComicsAlliance photographer Pat Loika walking away from the San Diego Convention Center on Thursday was doubtlessly the most forlorn Homer Simpson we've ever seen in 3D space (unless you count that whole 3D episode where Homer was, like, cripplingly depressed at the end). Our speculation is that this cosplay takes place after the events of 1995's "Homer the Great," when it turned out that Homer was heir to the throne of a secret society that rules the world... until it turned out he wasn't, and he was cast out for being a false idol as well as general jackassery. Sorry, spoilers.

Uncredited Batman Co-Creator Bill Finger’s Family Accepts Posthumous Inkpot Award At Panel Celebrating His Work

FingerPanel

As one might suspect, the major thrust of Thursday's "Spotlight on Bill Finger, Co-Cceator of Batman" panel was that Bill Finger never got the credit he deserved.

Comic-Con's organizers made one big gesture to make up for that, presenting Finger's granddaughter, Athena Finger, with a posthumous Inkpot Award just as the panel got started. The panelists tried their best to heap credit on Finger, too.

Mike Mignola Illustrates ‘Toy Story That Time Forgot’ Poster For Pixar TV Special

moviestoy-story-that-time-forgot-poster-1

Well, that was unexpected. I mean, we knew Pixar and ABC were working on a followup to last year's exceptionally great Toy Story Of Terror! Halloween special, this one called Toy Story That Time Forgot, but we really didn't anticipate Mike Mignola to be the one selected to make it official in an inescapably cool Comic-Con exclusive poster.

Warner Bros. Shows Off Ben Affleck’s Bat Hat And Bat Coat, But No Bat Suit

Untitled-2

If you're one of the unlucky millions who can't be in the giant steaming San Diego convention hangar this weekend, you probably won't get a chance to get up close and personal with the glass cabinet containing a bit of Ben Affleck's costume from next summer's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Sucks to be you! No proximity to Afflatex for you!

The small DC nation state on the con floor is showcasing a lot of Batmemorabilia to mark the Caped Crusader's 75th anniversary -- including the new movie Batman's actual crusading cape and crime-detecting cowl from Zack Snyder's sure-to-be poignant summer batbuster.

Photo Gallery: The Creators of San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Part 1

Untitled-2

Among the colorful cosplay, massive booths, interactive displays and walls of merchandise at Comic-Con International in San Diego — colloquially known as SDCC — remains the most important component of the show: comic book creators. ComicsAlliance photographer and Loikiamania podcast host Pat Loika hit the show floor to catch the men and women who tell our favorite stories in sequential art and captured the enthusiasm that comes from fans getting to meet their favorite storytellers at one of the biggest conventions of the year.

Check back with ComicsAlliance throughout the weekend for more of Pat's great photos from San Diego.

Marvel Unveils Concept Art Posters For ‘Age Of Ultron’ And ‘Ant-Man’; Updated With All The Avengers

posters-head

With Marvel's big Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday sure to be another roof-raising scrum of announcements and celebrity appearances, the studio is hoping to stir up more anticipation with the release of concept art posters for next year's big releases.

The first poster, for Peyton Reed's Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, uses concept art by Andy Park, and debuted on Entertainment Weekly. The posers for Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron come are by Ryan Meinerding, and should eventually slot together to form one giant image. Presumably posters featuring Quicksilver, Thor, Hawkeye, and Hulk, will follow over the course of the weekend.
