Quicksilver Races Onto Hot Toys’ Avengers Figure Roster

Hot Toys
Hot Toys

Somehow over the past two years, Quicksilver became a hot commodity in the Marvel movie landscape. With the character's rights in a bit of ownership limbo, both Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox released films in their flagship franchises that showed off the silver-haired speedster and his one-note abilities. Both X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers: Age of Ultron showed Quicksilver's powers and personalities in different ways, with each version of the character having his fans. Regardless of which iteration of Pietro Maximoff you liked better, only one got an action figure. Ipso facto, Avengers Quicksilver is clearly superior.

Teased during ACGHK 2015, Hot Toys officially announced its Avengers: Age of Ultron Quicksilver sixth-scale figure today. While we already knew what to expect from the sculpt based on the prototype shown off at the toy and collectible convention, these production shots do give us a better idea of the articulation and detail. Though Quicksilver's outfit is a bit plainclothes compared to the actual members of the Avengers, Hot Toys' tailors manage to bring all the subtlety they can do the outfit. It's a good thing too, otherwise this figure would run this risk of being just a tiny bit on the boring side.

Compare the ‘Avengers 2’ Characters to Their First Comic Book Appearance

Avengers 2 characters
Marvel/Shirts.com

The superheroes at the center of Avengers: Age of Ultron resonate so strongly with so many people because they’re so deeply entrenched in popular culture. Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk were around for years before Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo were even born. These aren’t just characters – they’re icons. And while serious comic book nerds know how much Earth’s mightiest heroes have changed with the times, taking a look back at what the likes of Black Widow and Hawkeye and the Vision used to look like is both entertaining and (dare we say it?) educational.

The Quicksilver of Two Worlds: How A B-List Speedster Became Hot Hollywood Property

quicksilver days of future past avengers age of ultron marvel

The Marvel superhero Quicksilver is not a big deal. I say that as someone who counts the guy among his favorite characters. What can I say? His snotty superiority has always spoken to me on a profound level. Yet I concede that the mutant speedster is not a marquee name. He's not even as popular as his nearest DC equivalent, the Flash. Calling him "B-list" may be a little generous.

Despite this he's going to appear in two separate movie blockbuster franchises played by two different actors in a single year -- a feat that Superman, Spider-Man, Batman and the Hulk can't match. None of this is because of public demand. So what is it about the character that landed him in this unique position?

The New Godzilla Trailer Is Tense And Emotional But Lacks Charles Barkley [Video]

Godzilla Trailer
Warner Bros.

The trailer for the new Godzilla movie is a really tense little film on its own, offering up only glimpses of the titular monster while Bryan Cranston and various other humans -- such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen who are playing Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, respectively, in Avengers: Age of Ultron -- lose their collective minds. It's gripping.

And yet it does not include any hint of Godzilla playing basketball against Charles Barkley. So there are pros and cons. Check out the trailer after the jump!
