Boom! Studios’ Next Adventure Time Graphic Novel Is ‘Bitter Sweets’ By Kate Leth And Zachary Sterling

BitterSweets01

If there is one thing that I have learned in my time here at ComicsAlliance, it's that the public's hunger for Adventure Time cannot be sated, and only grows ever stronger as we offer up more and more to its howling maw. But offer we will, and in the process we'll get some pretty great comics out of the deal, including both the Eisner-winning ongoing series and a line of original graphic novels focusing on smaller groups of characters.

This week, BOOM! announced the latest in the OGN series, Bitter Sweets, in which writer and Kate Or Die creator Kate Leth and artist Zachary Sterling, reuniting the team behind the best-selling Adventure Time: Seeing Red for a new story that focuses on Princess Bubblegum and Peppermint Butler. And this time, they're in full color.

Komboh’s Posters Bring A Sharp Design Sensibility To A Zelda/Adventure Time Mashup, The Iconography Of Star Trek, And More

Considering how prevalent it's become in the art you see everywhere on the internet -- including the hated Here's Two Things genre that has fueled the mindless engine of destruction that is online t-shirt sales -- it's always tempting to say that we've had enough of minimalist, graphic-design inspired takes on pop culture. The thing is, when it's done well, it's always fantastic, and Komboh does it very, very well.

Komboh, the collective term for artists Michael W. Mateyko and Hans B. Thiessen, have done an incredible job bringing their design sensibility to stuff like Star Trek, Doctor Who, and posters that promote reading, and they've even done a great job mashing up Adventure Time and The Legend of Zelda. Check out a few of my favorites below!

The ‘Adventure Time’ Cast Make Their Own Zines In Issue #30 [Preview]

Adventure Time #30, Boom! Studios

One of the great thing about the Adventure Time comics -- and there are a lot of great things about the Adventure Time comics -- is how great they are for telling stories with the familiar Cartoon Network characters that you could only really tell in comics. The best example might have been the fantastic Choose-Your-Own-Adventure issue, but next week, writer Ryan North and artists Kat Philbin, Missy Pena, Becca Tobin, Liz Prince, Carey Pietsch, Jesse Tise, Ian McGinty, T. Zysk, David Cutler, Yumi Sakugawa, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb (phew) are doing it again with a special issue that's all about the cast making their own zines.
That's right, everyone: If you've ever wanted to know what a zine would look like if it was made by BMO, now is your chance to find out. It's about a bear named Cool Bear, and it is amazing.

Hire This Woman: Cartoonist And Letterer Aubrey Aiese

Untitled-1

In the overwhelmingly male comic book industry, it has been a challenge for some editors and readers to see the ever growing number of talented women currently trying to make a name for themselves. With that in mind, ComicsAlliance offers Hire This Woman, a recurring feature designed for comics readers as well as editors and other professionals, where we shine the spotlight on a female comics pro on the ascendance. Some of these women will be at the very beginning of their careers, while others will be more experienced but not yet “household names.”

Illustrator Aubrey Aiese is the letterer of beloved new series Lumberjanes as well as some of the Adventure Time comics and graphic novels from Boom! Studios. She's also an artist who has made her own mini-comics and co-writing a comic with Zachary Sterling.

Jim Rugg’s Insane ‘Adventure Time’ Run Concludes In Next Week’s Issue #29 [Preview]

Untitled-1

Finn and Jake have been on a crazy ride over the last four issues of BOOM! Studios' Adventure Time series. Courtesy of Eisner-winning series writer Ryan North and visiting artist Jim Rugg, the plucky pair have traversed dark dungeons, confronted mind-body dualism by dying and becoming ghosts, pranked the Ice King, reprogrammed BMO, and been busted by spook hunter Ant-Ghost Princess. Naturally along the way they've made some eminently bad calls that have screwed everything up for basically everybody in the Land of Ooo. Also we saw the Mecha Lumpy Space Princess. Finally, this particular saga comes to an end in issue #27, which BOOM! promises will see the intervention of an "unlikely" ally.

The Reverse Curse Seizes Ooo In ‘Adventure Time: The Flip Side’ #6 [Preview]

Adventure Time: The Flip Side #6

Remember that scene in Ghostbusters where Bill Murray is talking about the catastrophic effects of shutting down the containment unit, and he's all like "Cats and dogs, living together! Mass hysteria!" Of course you do. Now, if you ever heard that and thought "well that sounds like a pretty good premise for a comic book story about my favorite characters from the smash hit TV show Adventure Time," then friend, you are in luck, because that's exactly what's going down in Adventure Time: The Flip Side #6, the final installment of the miniseries by Colleen Coover, Paul Tobin and Wook Jin Clark!

‘Adventure Time’ #28 Asks: Who Ya Gonna Call When Finn And Jake Are Ghosts? Anti-Ghost Princess! [Preview]

Adventure Time #28, Boom! Studios

It's one of those weird quirks about comics that when something is really, really good, you kind of forget about it for a while. Being great becomes the standard, so you almost forget about how good it is until something comes along and it suddenly gets even better. Like, say, when the Adventure Time comic teams up writer Ryan North with Street Angel and Afrodisiac creator Jim Rugg to introduce a bold new character named Anti-Ghost Princess in next week's issue.

That's right, Finn and Jake have shuffled off this mortal coil and have been reduced to haunting the candy castle, leading Princess Bubblegum to call in Anti-Ghost Princess and her team to handle these supernatural shennanigans once and for all. And I can assure you: this bit of busting certainly makes me feel good. Check out a preview below!
