Of the most anticipated superhero comics of this year has to be the upcoming Black Panther: World of Wakanda, which spins out of the ongoing title by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze and brings with it a host of new talent to Marvel. Although co-written by Coates, it marks the comics debut of celebrated writer Roxane Gay, who alongside artist Alitha E. Martinez is set to tell a story about two of 2016's most popular new characters. Marvel has provided an unlettered preview of the first issue.

I don't know that I've ever wanted to see a live-action comics-inspired television show as much as I want to watch Riverdale, and considering that we are currently living in an era where you can see stuff like Gorilla Grodd, the Martian Manhunter, and Red Kryptonite on TV every week, that's saying something. The show, which debuts mid-season next year on the CW, has promised a darker take on the Archie Comics characters, full of dark secrets - and if you're calmly enduring the wait to find out what kind of dark secrets Jughead has, then you're a far more patient person than I am. But for the rest of us, there's good news. Today, Archie announced that they're going to be publishing Riverdale, a prequel one-shot followed by an ongoing tie-in series early next year, written by showrunner and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with art by Alitha Martinez.

At San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, Marvel plans to announce a new series spinning out of Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze's Black Panther series, Black Panther: World of Wakanda. An anthology series, the lead story features Ayo and Aneka, two lovers who defected from Wakanda's all-woman security force to form the Midnight Angels, and it's co-written by Coates and feminist essayist and critic Roxane Gay, with art by Alitha Martinez. The first issue of World of Wakanda also features a 10-page backup story written by poet Yona Harvey, with art by Afua Richardson. Harvey's story stars Zenzi, a female revolutionary who has also been introduced in Coates' Black Panther.

It might seem hard to believe, but there was once a time when Archie Comics was the only publisher that didn't do variant covers. If memory serves --- and I might be wrong about this --- it took until 2010 for them to do their first one ever on Jughead #200. Now, though, with the high profile relaunches that we've seen over the past year, it looks like they're making up for lost time. When Betty & Veronica #1 hits shelves on July 20, it's coming with twenty-five different covers, including covers from Colleen Coover, Bilquis Evely, Chip Zdarsky, Veronica Fish and many more. 'WWE Superstars' #1 Is Straight Up Crazo [Review]
I've loved pro wrestling almost as long as I've loved comics, but it takes a lot to get me interested in those two things joining together. Books like Super Pro KO and The Legend of Ricky Thunder are absolutely fantastic, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to making comics that are actually based on the real-life stars of World Wrestling Entertainment, I've been burned pretty much every single
