DC's Universe Collides With Beloved Hanna-Barbera Characters
While DC Comics has had a great 2016 largely thanks to its DC Rebirth initiative, the success of its updated Hanna-Barbera titles such as Future Quest and The Flintstones has been one of the most surprising hits of the year. Next year, DC is doubling down on its classic cartoon characters by teaming them up with some of the most iconic heroes in the DC Universe in a number of special annuals set for release in March.

Marvel Women Shine Like a Diamond in Upper Deck's New Card Set
Upper Deck has not been stingy with the Marvel license, and over the past few years has mixed things up with card sets that showcase a wide variety of artists and characters, while also keeping things fresh with the designs themselves. From retro-inspired collections to painted masterworks, Upper Deck has had Marvel covered. For its next collection however, Upper Deck is going in a more Exquisite direction. The 2016 Marvel Gems card set will be an ultra premium collection, and will be the first Marvel set under the Exquisite brand. What's more, this set will focus entirely on the women of Marvel comics, and will include cards made with actual diamonds. Yeah, you read that right.

Relive Wolverine's First Appearance With Sideshow's New Statue
To say Wolverine's comics debut was run of the mill is a tad offensive to all those mills out there, running. It wasn't until he was added to the roster of the X-Men that Wolverine gained any kind of status in the Marvel Universe, let alone among fans. Still, the Canadian mutant's history can all be traced back to his one-off appearance in the Incredible Hulk in 1974, and as such, the Hulk and Wolverine have been tethered to one another throughout their histories. The battle between the pint-sized pugilist and the green goliath has been well-documented in a number of mediums, but never before have we seen artist Ariel Olivetti capture it. Nor have we seen him capture it in statue form. Until now!

We here at ComicsAlliance have been pretty excited about Luciano Saracino and Ariel Olivetti's Brutal Nature ever since it was first announced back in February. It makes sense that we would be, too --- I mean, I don't know about, you, but the potential to see someone fight a bear is literally the #1 thing I'm looking for when I'm deciding whether to jump on a new series, and Brutal Nature promised that on the cover. And in the first few pages of its first issue, it definitely delivers. Check out an exclusive preview for all the ursine decapitation that your weekday afternoon can handle!

IDW Announces Saracino And Olivetti's 'Brutal Nature'
There are a lot of things that can get me to read a new comic book. I like supporting creator-owned titles, for example, and while the record will show that my heart lies with superheroes, I definitely have an interest in historical fiction and stories that take an interesting look at ideas of magic that lend themselves to cool visuals. And, on a very basic level, I really like it when there's a story where someone turns into a bear and fights a bunch of dudes. Good for me, then, that Luciano Saracino and Ariel Olivetti's Brutal Nature has all of the above. Set for release in May, Brutal Nature is IDW's latest foray into the world of creator-owned comics, telling the story of one of Colombia's indigenous people using a set of magical masks to take on the invading Spanish empire. Check out the solicitation and a cover featuring Olivetti's designs below!

Robbie Thompson Consults With Wounded Warrior For 'Venom'
Spider-Man foe Venom and Peter Parker foe Flash Thompson are two characters that found new purpose when they bonded together as a secret agent, superhero, and guardian of the galaxy. Currently they co-star in the ongoing Venom: Space Knight series in the role of cosmic protectors in outer space. The alien symbiote Venom has become a sort of prosthesis for Flash, a wounded veteran who lost his legs in combat, but regained mobility by wearing the symbiote suit as a costume. A story from writer Robbie Thompson and artist Ariel Olivetti will show Flash Thompson taking off the suit and learning to walk with prosthetic legs in order to reassert his independence, and the story has been developed by Marvel in consultation with the service member support organization Wounded Warrior Project.
