Who is This For? Breaking Down Adam Hughes’ ‘Betty & Veronica’ #1

bettyveronica-feat

When the Betty & Veronica solicits came out weeks ago, I had a lot of concerns. Like, a lot of concerns. Mostly that Adam Hughes, a man known for drawing pin-ups, was going to be both drawing and writing a series about the best frenemies of the Archie Universe in their biggest fight. It certainly didn’t help that this was going to be yet another book in the new Archie line-up written by a man. But hey, I love Jughead, written by Chip Zdarsky (especially how it confirmed Jughead as ace), and Archie, written by Mark Waid, has been going strong. I tried to keep an open mind, waiting to pass judgement until it came out this month.

I’ve read the issue. And it has some major problems. So let’s talk about it.

Archie Reveals All 25 Variant Covers For ‘Betty And Veronica’ #1

Betty & Veronica #1 cover by Ramon K. Perez

It might seem hard to believe, but there was once a time when Archie Comics was the only publisher that didn't do variant covers. If memory serves --- and I might be wrong about this --- it took until 2010 for them to do their first one ever on Jughead #200. Now, though, with the high profile relaunches that we've seen over the past year, it looks like they're making up for lost time.

When Betty & Veronica #1 hits shelves on July 20, it's coming with twenty-five different covers, including covers from Colleen Coover, Bilquis Evely, Chip Zdarsky, Veronica Fish and many more. Check out the entire roster!

The Archie Comics Reboot Continues with ‘Life with Kevin’ and ‘Betty and Veronica’

archietitles_featured

Almost a year ago, Archie Comics launched a Kickstarter for three upcoming books, and then quickly abandoned that plan. The first of those books, Jughead, came out last year to great acclaim. Today, Archie has officially announced the coming release of the other two titles, Life with Kevin and Betty and Veronica.

Cheryl Blossom’s Taking Over In The Digital Collection Of ‘Queen B’ [Preview]

Cheryl00

As much as they've been getting coverage for the bold new direction in stuff like the reboot of the core titles and the horror-themed imprint led by Afterlife With Archie, one of Archie Comics' greatest strengths has always been that it has so much content in its back catalog. It's one of the reasons that Archie has been able to put out so many of those massive 500-page Best Of collections in recent years, but one of the most interesting the publisher has done with all that content has been its approach to digital releases.

You might have missed them if you don't keep an eye on Comixology, but the usual idea is that Archie puts out a bunch of reprints built around a particular theme, like when it collected all the stories about pro wrestling from over the years. This week, it's reprinting "Queen B," a pretty fantastic story about Betty and Veronica's most bitter rival, by some of Archie's best creators.
