Sarah Stern is an up-and-coming talent in the world of comics. She primarily provides color art for comics like Goldie Vance and Brave Chef Brianna, but she's also created storyboards for animation, and recently created a webcomic, Cindersong, which she writes, illustrates, and colors herself.
ComicsAlliance had the chance to talk to Stern at Emerald City Comicon, where we nerded out about how the heck colorists create magic on the page, and talked about fantasy worldbuilding and making friends in the comics world.
We're pretty high on comics about cooking and baking here at ComicsAlliance, which means Sam Sykes, Selina Espiritu and Sarah Stern's Brave Chef Brianna is one of our most anticipated new series of the year. Ahead of its release in March, Boom Studios has provided us with an exclusive first look at colored pages from the first issue, as well as the first-ever chalkboard back cover in comics!
I know we've all been waiting very patiently, but the day is finally upon us. Comics based on James Cameron's Avatar are finally coming next year on Free Comic Book Day! The comic book adaptation of the smash-hit blockbuster that everyone loves and remembers is just one of twelve Gold Titles as part of FCBD's 2017 celebration, which also includes Rick & Morty, Doctor Who and X-O Manowar.
Announced today, Free Comic Book Day 2017 will be celebrated across the world on May 6th, and as usual the big name publishers, including Image, IDW, Boom, Oni and Titan, all have offerings as part of next year's crop of Gold Sponsor titles.
Kaboom, the kid-oriented imprint of Boom Studios, has a comic coming in Spring 2017 that looks perfect for anyone who loves MasterChef Junior almost as much as Gravity Falls. Brave Chef Brianna is written by fantasy author Sam Sykes with art by Selina Espiritu, and tells the story of Brianna Jakobsson, a talented chef who opens a restaurant in a city of monsters. It seems that was the only site she could afford, and she needs to prove herself to her father, who has set up a contest between her and her brothers.
But succeeding as a chef in Monster City means cooking what monsters want to eat, and that has to be a little intimidating for a decidedly non-monstrous human like Brianna.
