Warner Bros. has been steadily producing a whole lot of direct-to-video animated movies about DC Comics over the past few years, and while a lot of them have been adaptations of existing stories, there are a few original storylines mixed in there as well. The latest project, Justice League: Gods and Monsters is one of those, and it's got something that should make even the most jaded viewer a little interested: Bruce Timm, the animator best known for being one of the creators of Batman: The Animated Series. Now, we're getting a look at what we can expect in the movie courtesy of Machinima's Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles, a web series coming out in advance of the movie that's set to reveal the project's much darker version of the Justice League.

'Masters Of The Universe' Minicomic Collection Announced
If you were into He-Man and the Masters of the Universe back in the '80s, then you might remember that the toys came with minicomics that provided some additional story about bare-chested heroes fighting equally bare-chested (and surprisingly muscular) skeletons --- and if you were really paying attention, you might recall that those comics featured some early work from legendary creators like Mark Texeira and Bruce Timm. If that's the case, you might be tempted to dig through toy bins at conventions and try to put together a run yourself, but fortunately, Dark Horse is saving us all the trouble. This October, it's releasing the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Minicomic Collection, a whopping 1,232-page hardcover that collects every single minicomic from the classic toy line, bumped up to 6" x 9" and presented in production order.

Is Darkseid the DC Universe's Ultimate Bad Guy?
Q: Do you think Darkseid deserves to be considered the ultimate bad guy of the DC Universe? What are his achievements? -- @Lionel_Leal A: I don't want to turn this into "Ask Chris About Jack Kirby's Fourth World" --- as opposed to my usual strategy of spending an entire week talking about the moral significance of Batman's utility belt or whatever --- but over the last few years, Darkseid has been a more prominent fixture of the DC Universe than any other time in his forty-year history. I think it probably started with how he was treated on Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League, but just in the past three years we've seen him as the villain that launched the New 52, and the villain who's probably going to show up in a movie about the Justice League at some point. So with all due respect, LL, it's not really a matter of "Darkseid deserves." Darkseid is.

Returning to DC Animated fold after a lengthy absence (outside of producing), Bruce Timm will be bringing an all-new version of the Justice League to life with Justice League: Gods and Monsters. Just like other DCU animated features of late, the direct-to-video feature will be getting an action figure line. Unlike those other series however, this line will fit right in with the recent Batman: The Animated Series collection.

We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, as well as the special qualities of comic book storytelling, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great pinups, fan art and other illustrations on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, and some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it is awesome.
