Captain Marvel got a major shot in the arm with the studio’s confirmation of Nicole Perlman and Meg LaFauve as the film’s writers, but fan-favorite Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan may beat her idol into the MCU. A new rumor suggests that ABC’s John Ridley-helmed series is none other than the Muslim-American superhero, potentially to be paired with the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff.

On the heels of the incredibly disappointing news that Michelle MacLaren has exited the Wonder Woman film comes some exciting news from the realm of superhero women. Although we won’t officially meet Captain Marvel for a little while, Marvel Studios is already putting talent together for her upcoming solo film. The studio has their eye on Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve, two talented female writers to hopefully pair with a talented female director (hey Marvel, I hear Michelle MacLaren isn’t busy at the moment).

With Avengers: Age of Ultron just around the corner, interest in these heroes has never been greater, so we’ve decided to pit all the official comic book Avengers against each other in a battle for your affections. Who is the greatest, best, favorite Avenger of all time? Only you can decide. We’ve created voting groups that mix up different eras of Avengers membership. Group H includes a couple of captains, some ex-villains (including a Doom?), a Jack and a knight, and one of Magneto's kids (don't believe the retcons). The top two or three Avengers from each group will go through to the next round, so vote tactically. Or just vote for Carol. We're pretty sure you're going to vote for Carol.

We heard rumors a while back that Captain Marvel would make her big screen debut in Avengers 2 before getting her own solo film in a few years, but then heard this was no longer the case. Now, according to a source who has been right about this kind of stuff before, Marvel has secretly cast their Carol Danvers and has plans to introduce her very soon.

Marvel has announced a new bi-monthly book called A-Force Presents that will collect issues of various Marvel comics featuring female heroes in trade paperback format. Rather than the traditional collection of a single storyline, these collections will be more of sampler of what's going on at Marvel at any given time. This is a great idea from Marvel, and a really exciting example of how the publisher is taking women seriously as an audience.

For day four, we look at the high-ranking uniforms of the Captains Marvel, with our pick of the best costume for each major character to bear the title --- four of them from Marvel and one from Fawcett (via DC). How does Carol Danvers' cosplay-favorite flight-suit stack up against the big red cheese's fancily embellished union suit?

We always suspected this day would come; our Supermovies Infographic is actually shrinking. The announcement of a new deal between Sony and Marvel over the Spider-Man movies, which sees Spider-Man integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but still under Sony's control, has not only bumped a lot of release dates back to avoid a Marvel/Sony showdown, but has also pushed at least a couple of films off the chart completely.

Marvel's Black Vortex event launches this week with The Black Vortex #1 by Sam Humphries and Ed McGuiness, and to promote the event -- and maybe explain it a little -- Marvel has released a video trailer in which a very serious fella outlines the basic plot details. X-Men. Guardians. Ancient artifact of immense and immeasurable power. Villains. Aliens. Star-Lord's dad. Thanos's kid. That sort of thing. Ooh, and Kitty and Pete pull guns on each other, so you know it's serious, even if the very serious voice over hadn't already convinced you. This. Is. Spartax.

The number one movie of last year was based on a comic book. The year before, two of the top five movies were based on comics. The year before that, both of the two top movies of the year were inspired by comics; both went on to make more than $1 billion worldwide and are now among the top 15 highest-grossing movies in history. Next year, no less than ten (10) movies based on comic books will open in theaters. Blessed are the geeks, for they have inherited the earth, at least as far as Hollywood is concerned.

Christmas has once again come and gone, but before the holidays are over, there's one last celebration we all have to get through before New Year's rolls around and puts a cap on it: Boxing Day! The only problem is that the True Meaning of Boxing Day has been explored in roughly zero movies (as opposed to the True Meaning of Christmas, which has been pretty thoroughly dealt with in about 4,926), so I always just tend to think of it as a wintry celebration of people punching each other in the face. I always try to celebrate with the most pugilistic comic I can find, and this year, that led me to 1944's Captain Marvel Adventures #35, which promised a boxing match between Billy Batson's alter ego and a soldier, and then went on to become one of the all-time craziest comic books I have ever read.
