Make The Moves Up As I Go: The ‘Mockingbird’ Mixtape

Kate Niemczyk, Rachelle Rosenberg & Joe Caramagna / Marvel Comics
Kate Niemczyk, Rachelle Rosenberg & Joe Caramagna / Marvel Comics

Chelsea Cain, Kate Niemczyk and Rachelle Rosenberg's eight-issue series about the life and times of Mockingbird is one of the best Big Two comics I’ve ever read. It made me a fan of the character and everyone involved in the making of it, so much so that it inspired me to compile a mixtape in tribute to last year's cult-favorite. I like to imagine these are the songs Mockingbird AKA Bobbi Morse listens to when she’s in waiting rooms, on the way to missions, when she’s working out, or driving around.

Ask Her About Her Feminist Agenda: Why ‘Mockingbird’ Was One Of The Best Books Of The Year

Joelle Jones

It’s relaunch season at Marvel Comics, and while that always brings a wave of new and exciting titles, it also means we have to say goodbye to titles that are cancelled quietly and shuffled away into a category marked “Cult Favorite”. The past month has seen the end of a number of critically acclaimed titles including Nighthawk and A-Force, but the one I’m going to miss the most is Mockingbird by Chelsea Cain, Kate Niemczyk, and Rachelle Rosenberg, which ended with its eight issue recently.

Medical Mysteries and Maybe Monsters in ‘Mockingbird’ #1 [Review]

mockingbird_featured

If I say that Mockingbird #1 is a comic about repeated doctor's office visits, I worry that won't sound very exciting. And don't get me wrong, Mockingbird #1 is a very exciting, fun comic. But if I'm going to be honest, it's also a comic about repeated doctor's office visits.

See, not too long ago, Nick Fury saved Bobbi "Mockingbird" Morse's life with the help of the Super Soldier Serum and the Infinity Formula. Now SHIELD is concerned about possible side effects. Side effects that include psychic phenomena and visions of elderly zombie people. So they've got her coming into the SHIELD clinic for weekly checkups, and as they go on, things get weirder.

Twice As Smart, Twice As Tough: Chelsea Cain and Kate Niemczyk Let ‘Mockingbird’ Fly [Interview]

Jeff Darak

This week sees the arrival of Mockingbird, Bobbi Morse, in her first ever ongoing series. Written by bestselling author Chelsea Cain and Marvel newcomer Kate Niemczyk, the series picks up on the momentum from Cain's Mockingbird one-shot last year, along with the increased exposure of the character as part of the cast of Agents of SHIELD.

Mockingbird is a character with a long history, and ties to just about every Avenger. But who is she when she stands alone, and what motivates her as one of the best-known Marvel heroes with no super-powers to depend upon. There's a lot going on behind those awesome shades, so ahead of the first issue debut this week, ComicsAlliance spoke to Cain and Niemczyk about their take on one of Marvel's toughest secret agents. As an added bonus, Marvel shared a first look at Niemczyk's black and white pages for issue #2!
