Offering a notably comics-specific, distinctly warm and fuzzy vibe that's not to be found at some of the massive and monstrous, comics-suppressing conventions here in the US, Seattle's Emerald City Comicon feels a lot more like comics summer camp than it does a media trade show. Comics professionals from all dimensions of the industry -- creators, publishers, press and beyond -- all look forward to ECCC for the same reasons attendees do; it's a great weekend to meet your readers, meet your favorite authors, and celebrate the medium we all love.
Also, buying cool stuff.
That same summer camp quality that makes ECCC worth attending may also make it worth commemorating, which is why it makes sense that geek fashion hausWe Love Finehas made its first ever partnership with a convention with a limited edition line of t-shirts. Featuring Marvel characters like Captain Marvel, Hawkeye and Deadpool as well as other We Love Fine licenses like My Little Pony, Transformers, ElfQuest, Bravest Warriors, Adventure Time and Bee & Puppycat alongside Seattle iconography (very cute), the ECCCxWLF collection will be available exclusively for $25 each at the Seattle show from March 27-30.
Over the past few years, WeLoveFine has pretty steadily become our site of choice for the clothing we need to survive the harsh elements and hide our shame. This is largely thanks to great designs featuring stuff we love, like Adventure Time, My Little Pony and Marvel Comics, but one of the most fun things about the site has been seeing what fans have done with their design contests.
The latest contest? Deadpool, with the winners picked by Deadpool writers Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan. Check out the winners (including the one picked by the staff of WLF) below!
Even though I've got a stack of 'em sitting next to me, I'll admit that I'm more than a little behind on the current run of Deadpool. As a result, I've been completely unaware that they've been doing flashback stories set in past eras of the Marvel Universe, until the moment I saw the preview for #13, in which Brian Posehn, Gerry Duggan, Scott Koblish and Val Staples reveal an untold tale of everyone's favorite mercenary mixing it up with Power Man, Iron Fist, and best of all, the Baseball Furies.
Deadpool is one of the few characters who seems to fit perfectly in the world of video games. He's a dude who literally does nothing but kill people and make wisecracks, specializes in both melee and ranged attacks, and even has that nifty short-range teleporter that can be used for dodging attacks or platforming. It's a no-brainer, and I'm kind of surprised that it's taken this long for it to actually happen. That said, even with all that he's got going for him, Deadpool as a character brings a pretty unique challenge to the table when it comes to trying to translate him to a game, and it all comes down to tone.
Minimates collectors may want to secure some clear shelf space before San Diego Comic-Con on July 17-21, especially if they're keen on Iron Man and Deadpool. Action Figure Xpress has announced an exclusive new "Deadpool Assemble" box set packing Cable-Pool, Captain Ameri-Pool, Thor-Pool and Phonics-Killer Iron Deadpool, plus a massive Iron Man 3"Hall of Armors" 10-pack that stocks eight of Shellhead's most iconic movie suits, along with 'mates of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts.
If you're looking for Hasbro's exclusive 3.75" Marvel Universe Deadpool Corps box set this July at San Diego Comic-Con, you won't just be looking for Booth #3329, you'll be looking for a taco truck. Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, Champion of the Universe, Kidpool, Dogpool and Squirrelpool are getting served up to fans in taco shell style blister packs, boxed inside a cardboard tray that rides inside DP's "El Guero Taqueria."
